I will look for more of this author but hope the next book won't have the same language
Patterson is James Bond as a policeman replete with an Aston Marton
Men in action, breaking rules, and punching senior officers. It is over the top in all these areas. It was a bit much for me
Top reviews from other countries
The reader finds out who the culprit is quite early on and the majority of the book is dedicated to tracking him down before he can do too much more harm, but how successful can the police be at that?
This was a new author to me but I will definitely be looking out for more from him.
The story itself was OK. I did finish it whilst trying to ignore the gutter language. I didn't find any of the characters likeable, DS Ray Patterson, ACC Young, DS Johnny Clocks, DC Adam Walker, DS Dave Jordon - all people I wouldn't want to be in the same room as me.
I doubt that I will read anything further by this author and would not recommend it to anyone who dislikes foul language as much as I do.
For me this novel gets better the further it goes. I can understand why there have been some negative reviews. Along with the content. There was the odd typo error. They were mainly in the early chapters.
The protagonist in this is Detective Superintendent Ray Paterson. A young rising star of the Metropolitan Police. Destined, to be the top London cop someday soon.
But before then, Paterson has to solve a brutal murder. Then another. A serial killer is at large.
Placed in charge as the senior investigating officer. Which is a new situation for him. Assigned to Bermondsey. Where he has to head up a team, that holds the view that to catch villains you have to think like them.
Surely, no place for someone from the Home Counties and family connections to be? When sipping champagne with a supermodel in Mayfair is more your scene. Sleeping with females, he should have left alone is another regular pastime for him.
Then to add to his problems. He is going through a messy divorce.
