The Fast and the Furious meets Mr. Robot in USA Today bestselling author Megan Erickson's thrilling new romantic suspense series.
Hacker extraordinaire Roarke Brennan lives each hour - each breath - to avenge his brother's murder. His first move: put together a team of the best coders he knows. They're all brilliant, specialized, and every one an epic pain in his ass. Only now Wren Lee wants in too, threatening to upset their delicate balance. The girl Roarke never allowed himself to want is all grown up with sexy confidence and a dark past ... and she's the wild card he can't control.
Roarke might still think she's a kid, but Wren's been to hell and back. Nothing and nobody can stop her - especially the tatted-up, cocky-as-all-hell hacker. But when years of longing and chemistry collide, Wren and Roarke discover that revenge may be a dish best served blazing hot.

The story is a bit misleading because you expect it to be more sedate than it is because of the stereo typing belief that hackers are all about their computers. That is definitely not the case here as readers find out almost right off the bat. The hero and heroine, Roarke and Wren are two characters that demand attention and captivate readers with their charismatic personalities that are somewhat expected but are so much more than expected that I just had to get to know them better. Which leads me to their romance, it is full of emotional turmoil which adds lots of depth and tugs at heartstrings.
Now, we get to the thrilling suspense of the story, it is not only fast paced, I have to agree with the “Fast & Furious” feel of the story. It has lots of twists and unexpected surprises that really keeps readers on the edge of their seats as the anticipation builds throughout. Along with the question of whether these characters will let revenge rule their lives, will revenge be enough, will it come between the growing relationship and even the question of whether they will survive?
Zero Hour is the first book that I have read by Megan Erickson and what a great one to start out with. I was glued to the pages from beginning to end and found the world exciting and daring and the author brought it vivid life, so I am looking forward to not only reading the next book in the Wired & Dangerous series but more books by Megan Erickson.
"Standing there in a ball cap, torn jeans, bloody shirt, and a scowl, Roarke Brennan was a dream. Well, if a girl’s dream was a tattooed tech-head who was now glaring at her like he wanted her to disappear."
I’ve become a recent fan of romantic suspense - after avoiding it for a while - and this storyline does not disappoint. There was plenty of computer based action - this is about a group of hackers after all - but even some real life stuff as well that had me turning pages so fast wanting to know what was going to happen. But the romance, it was there in spades as well. I’m a big fan of friends to lovers (especially ones with childhood crushes involved) and the relationship that begins to develop between Roarke and Wren has the right mix of sexual tension, shared history and a mutual understanding of one another that just makes the romance all the more exciting. For me it was just the right amount of romance to action and suspense, and I was with Roarke and Wren every step of the way!
Finally, this is the first book in Megan’s new Wired and Dangerous series and I’m so glad we’re going to revisit this crew. I’m keen to read Jock’s book (coming next) as he definitely has a few secrets that I want to know. But Marisol, Dade and Erick all intrigue me as well so I’m hoping they all get a happy ending?!?! Either way, I’m excited for where Megan will take us next - because she’s got me hacked...sorry, hooked 😉

It immediately starts off with a bang, throwing you right into the fire as Roarke begins recruiting a team of elite hackers in order to exact revenge for his brother’s murder. I was invested from the very beginning because Roarke’s feelings are so potently relatable and one can’t help but wanted to join him on this quest for vengeance. The action continues in the same vein for the rest of the novel–rarely taking a moment to rest and lulling you in a false sense of security when it does. This novel is a wild ride and delivers all the suspense that the blurb and author promise. The ending will make you flip your shit, because while it’s basically expected after the events that come before, you’re stuck on a cliffhanger with nothing to do until the next book comes out in the summer. SO UNFAIR.
While the action is superb, the best part about this series is the diverse cast of characters. There’s six people in the crew and they’re all incredible in their own ways. There’s Wren, the heroine of ZERO HOUR, who is South Korean and an assault survivor. She takes no crap and gives as good as she gets, and she cares so deeply for the people she loves. Roarke, the hero, is the tattooed bad boy with a heart of gold. In the novel, he’s full of desperate rage over the loss of his brother, and he’s loyal to a fault. Next is Erick, Wren’s older brother and Roarke’s best friend, who is also South Korean and gay. He’s a huge dork struggling through a difficult time in his life, and for practically the whole novel, I just wanted to hold onto and take care of him. Then there’s Marisol, a beautiful pansexual Puerto Rican woman, who is open and friendly with the whole crew, immediately adopting them all as one of her own. She’s intelligent and strong and has a multitude of skills, which, combined with her beauty, make her perfect. Next is Jock, who’s ex-military and doesn’t talk unless it becomes absolutely necessary. He’s one of those people who can say A LOT with just a look or a silence, and I cannot wait to learn more about him in the second book, of which he is the hero. And finally, there’s Dade, who is maybe a Russian orphan but also maybe not, because what do we actually know about him besides that he’s a hacking mastermind and likes to get in fights? I need more about him ASAP.
The romance in this novel is also just as amazing as the suspense aspect. Roarke and Wren work so well together, and I love that she doesn’t let him get away with nonsense. The slow burn was epically painful to read because I just wanted them to KISS ALREADY, but it was so worth it by the time they did. And even don’t speak to me about the clementine scene because that was so erotic and sexy and I’m just. OVERWHELMED. They’re also so tender and loving and understanding towards each other that I just can’t handle it. Roarke and Wren are both sweethearts with jagged edges, and somehow their edges fit together instead of mercilessly slicing the other.
All in all, this book is really amazing and absolutely worth the read. I hope everyone picks up a copy of this and the rest of the series!

That said, there were aspects to "team" that Roarke ignored and then got mad at Wren for ignoring, too - that kind of two-faced behavior rankles, and it's not resolved so much as buried under everything else. So I hope it gets used later, at least. *pokes author*
Surprisingly, for this author, the prose is at times a bit ...not rough, but not compelling. I don't usually take this long to read a novel. I'm hoping subsequent books get more loving care.
I know zip about hacking, but I've seen a lot of really clever and smart thinking-ahead stories that make some of what this team does look careless, so the conclusion didn't surprise me. That isn't a writing failure so much as a factor in the story, since they are hardly done. It's a series.
