Hi Greg,
I am 6 weeks into my first full-time job and cannot articulate just how grateful I am to have come across your book (sooner rather than later).
I would be kidding myself to believe that I haven’t at times felt apprehensive, demoralised or disconnected from my employer (as well as on an organisational level) during this ‘honeymoon’ period. Such feelings are inevitable, regardless of how tough skinned you may think you are.
This book has taught me such valuable lessons on how to better position myself during the onboarding process that will not only assist in overcoming my current unsettling feelings, but will also help me to stand out from the rest and best position myself for future success (and most importantly to enjoy my job more!!) Some of my favourite discussions include, tips on aligning your values with that of your employers, how to master a new skill in just 20hrs and the tricks to creating the perfect ‘elevator pitch’. I also loved the tips to prepare myself for when the (now not so scary) review comes. I plan to adopt many of the lessons learnt in this book into my everyday life, such as the importance of establishing good first impressions, adopting a growth mindset in my every day activities and to rock my own personal brand.
This book should be a prerequisite for both employees just joining the workforce as well as for employers who have recently taken up managerial positions. The number of employees failing (or even leaving before) the probationary period is way too high, and this is as costly, time consuming and stressful for the employer! It’s no secret that successful onboarding is the key to personal and organisational future success.
W(hen)TF is your next book coming out!? Bring on Monday....
