Isn't that a big part of why most of us don't follow our dream? Love how this couple followed their hearts and lived life as it could be. Mostly I thank them for sharing the experiences in their journey on a travellers view and a personal level. Wonderful book!

After Kim and her husband, Brian, decide to quit their jobs to travel around the world, they're given a yellow envelope containing a check and instructions to give the money away. There are only three rules for the envelope: don't overthink it, share your experiences, and don't feel pressured to give it all away. Through Ecuador, Peru, Nepal, and beyond, Kim and Brian face obstacles, including major challenges to their relationship. As they distribute the money to people they encounter along the way, they learn that money does not have anything to do with the capacity to give but that it is the giving of ourselves that is transformational.

Verified PurchaseUnlike most of the reviewers here we did not receive a copy from Netgalley in exchange for our review. We have been following Kim's blog since it's inception not least because we also traded our corporate life for a more nomadic lifestyle. We enjoyed The Yellow Envelope and could easily relate to a number of the situations experienced by the author. It was an easy and enjoyable read and it was good to learn about how the Yellow Envelope money was donated. We have already used our Yellow Envelope which was attached to the back cover of the book 😊😉
AceReviewed in the United States on 17 April 20175.0 out of 5 stars Much, much more than a travel memoir.
Verified PurchaseI'd like to challenge the review that this book is geared towards women. Written by a women obviously, but I think any guy who has a sense for adventure or a curiosity about what it takes and what it's like to see the world would totally enjoy this thing. I'm a dude and found this book right up my alley - I couldn't put it down actually - finished it on a 5 day trip to Mexico. I can't say I'm an avid reader and this might be the fastest I've ever finished a book of more than 300 pages (and the most I've teared up reading a book ever).
The author does an incredibly beautiful job at putting you right there with her in the village in Ecuador, on the streets of India, in the mountains of Nepal, the winding landscapes of Vietnam. And although this is a travel memoir, in my opinion, this book is about what it means to give yourself permission to question your life, your purpose. What it means to tell the truth when the truth hurts like hell. This is lesson in the value of real, honest self-exploration. So much more than a travel book.
I wasn't expecting this thing to have me in tears throughout its entirety, but it did. For anyone, male or female, who has a sense of adventure, or might need a nudge in the right direction to take a leap of faith, or just likes brilliantly put together sentences about inspiring travel stories and self-examination, I can't recommend this book enough.
Kudos to the author and her husband for displaying a little more of what this world needs.

Verified PurchaseWhen you can't travel physically; you travel through books. I did exactly that reading through The Yellow Envelope by Kim Dinan.
The Yellow Envelope is a travelogue where the author takes you through her bold decision to quit her job along with her husband, sell everything they owned in the six years of their professional and personal life and go out into the unknown world with lot of nervousness and uncertainties, and little bit of excitement.
Kim was not happy with her life and one day, while on a trail run, she voices her unhappiness into the lonely morning. That is when the truth dawns upon her and she realizes the life she is living is not the life she wants. She wants to travel and write. She confesses her urge to her husband. He relents and they decide to travel. They have been entrusted with an yellow envelope by one of their couple friends which plays a very important role in their self discovery through the journey.
Kim takes you around the world along with her anxieties, vulnerabilities, indecisiveness, and difficulties. The journey which starts as a desire to see the world becomes a path to self discovery, love, compassion and kindness.
I still am jetlagged post a beautiful tour of the world with Kim.
