Product description

Review

Christopher Heywood invites us to take a fresh look at this oft-interpreted novel, throwing new light on its literary ancestry, and providing a wealth of material about the 'plantation economy' of northern England in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. His introduction situates the work firmly in its place and time, putting particular emphasis on the complex of family and social histories out of which Bronte wove her story. In Heywood's provocative reading, Heathcliff sheds the demonic aura with which he is invested by other critics, and takes on tragic dimensions, becoming 'a martyr and hero of social change.' This Broadview edition of Wuthering Heights makes a valuable contribution to the continuing debate about the origins, structure, and meaning of one of the greatest—and most enigmatic—novels in English." - Herbert Rosengarten, University of British Columbia --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.

From the Publisher

Emily Brontë was born on 30th July 1818. She was the younger sister of Charlotte Brontë and the fifth of six children. From 1820 Emily's father was perpetual curate of Haworth in North Yorkshire. After the death of their mother in 1821, the older sisters were sent away to school and Emily joined them for a brief period, however two of her sisters contracted typhus and subsequently died and the remaining sisters and their brother were thereafter educated at home. Apart from a brief spell as a teacher, Emily spent the most part of her adult life at home, cooking, cleaning and teaching at Sunday school. In 1846 there appeared 'Poems by Currer, Ellis, and Acton Bell', the pseudonyms of Charlotte, Emily, and Anne Brontë. Wuthering Heights was Emily's only novel and was first published in 1847. Emily Brontë died from tuberculosis in 1848. --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.

By Aly Watson on 11 September 2020
I was really looking forward to this but unfortunately all the print is rubbing off. Does anyone else have this problem?? After a week, most of the print on the spine is gone.

1.0 out of 5 stars This particular Kindle eddition is a fake
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 March 2019
This particular kindle book is complete gibberish sold under the pretense of being Emily Bronte's "Wuthering Heights". Even the preview shows that (see the picture I attached) but unfortunately I didn't bother to check the preview before buying as I trusted Amazon to deliver quality products. Won't happen again.

5.0 out of 5 stars The classic love story
Reviewed in India on 8 May 2019
I bought this book for a really good price.. This edition particularly is very cheap. But the font could be little small. But it is completely a readable font. The book was in good condition with no damages.
Moving on to the book... It is the best book written by Emily Bronte... It is even more popular than Jane Eyre which was written by her sister. It is a love story and what I love about this book is this beautiful setting. If you have read the book already you would know what am talking about. It also have some gothic elements . And if you want to read this book then I would ask you to read in the Fall season... Because you will just have the best time of your life reading it.
