What happens when the masks come off?

When one of the supersexy Gage brothers blows Molly Devaney away with a scorching kiss at a masquerade ball, she thinks she's met her soul mate. But why does her masked seducer act as if she doesn't exist the next day? To win him over, she'll make him jealous, so she turns to his brother Julian Gage, who offers to play the role of her lover.

But Julian is playing for keeps. There's nothing fake about the way this woman makes him feel, and now he's going to show her just which Gage brother is right for her….

3.0 out of 5 stars Title of the book should be the Playboy and the Child.... 16 February 2015

I really wanted to like this book. I really liked the premise of a masquerade mix-up and a friends to lovers story is always interesting. I've read a book by this author before and on the strength of how much I liked that one I bought this one. I should've stopped while I was ahead.
SPOILER ALERT>>>
Julian John Gage is a typical alpha male with unrequited feelings. He sleeps around and is largely forgiven for it because he's so charming and so gorgeous who can blame the fact that women throw themselves at him. I ended up really liking the character and I hated how his family treats him almost from the age of 6. In order to protect the female lead, Molly, from Julian his family constantly sends him away and threatens to disown him...this all starts when Julian is no older than 13. Which makes you really not like his family...I mean how do you pick one person over the other? They are directly responsible for turning him into the womanizer he has grown to become...it's meeting expectations. But Julian decided enough is enough and finds the courage to become his own man...family be damned. You have to respect that. So Julian to me was the good part of the story.

Molly, the female lead, was the bad part. If I had to sum her up in one word that word would be childish...in the extreme. Her inner monologues and her actions seem like those of a 16 year old not a grown up 23 year old. I found it hard to like her and harder to read her parts. In an effort to finish this book I just started to skim over the Molly parts. Skimming over them made the book better. I just couldn't listen to her profess love of a person she normally couldn't stand all because of a kiss. It made no sense!! She was ridiculous and the fact that Julian's family and her sister all went out of their way to treat her as breakable all while throwing Julian to the wolves pissed me off to NO END!!

I gave this 3 stars because I did like Julian and I did finish the book. If it had been possible I'd have given it 2.5 stars. If I were you I'd give this book a pass. Try the author's Billionaire Club series instead.

Very nice to read a book where the H and h were so close life-long friends and see their romantic relationship develop.
Julian and Molly had grown up together and really loved each other.
Kept me happy the whole book except it was a tiny bit of annoyance on the overwhelming number of nicknames they had for each other. Even when you call someone a nickname you rarely use 4-5 different ones in the same conversation.

I fell in love with this book. I ended up reading Garrett and Kate's story first, my favorite of the two. I really fell for Julian and his struggle to go along with Kate's charade. great book, highly recommended and I'm looking forward to reading more books by Red Garnier.

Friends to lovers perfect. Nice movement in the relationship. The hero was a sensitive alpha--- the best type of hero.. The heroine was cute, strong, and sweetly innocent. The friendship was sweet and true. Almost 5 stars- I think the brother as an interest went on too long.

Cute story about two best friends discovering they have been in love since childhood. I have enjoyed all Red Garnier books that I've read.
