Product Description

‘We love Aussies,’ they said, ‘the readers will eat you up’.

Those seven little words got me on a plane to the USA for the ‘Raunchy with a touch of sexiness – Valentine’s Day Author Event’ in Miami.

I’m a romance author. A girl with a vivid imagination, and an overactive sex drive.

Oh, and yes I’m Australian

When I agreed the so-called love of my life had just walked out on me, leaving me with two little girls. All I wanted was a little fun and some no strings attached fun while I was there.

It would be my very own ‘what happens in Miami, stays in Miami’.

Unless I fall in love with an American.

There’s no such thing as a happily ever after in real life,

Is there?

Wow! This book had it all, romance, drama, funny moments, a leading Alpha and a story that was completely unique and captivating.
I loved the fact this book was based on a sexy, witty female author that was 40! She totally killed it! Cait was an independent woman battling to find herself after a messy breakup with her husband. Determined to have a two week holiday that was planned around an author signing event in the US..... far from her home land in Australia Cait never planned to meet someone like CJ.
I can't rave about this book enough! It is original, page turning and it absolutely held me captive until the last page and still I wanted more!!! FANTASTIC READ!!!

Writing My Own Destiny is a romantic comedy full smiles and giggles. It has a unique story line and is a light, quick read.

Cait and CJ are both authors who meet at a signing in Miami. Cait is Australian and in the US for the first time. CJ is American. They have instant chemistry and spend nearly every day of Cait's two-week visit together. Will it be a quick fling? Or will it turn into something more? Can a relationship work when you are an ocean apart?

As I said above, the plot was unique, and the blurb caught my attention immediately. Unfortunately, the story just didn't flow for me. I found the book a bit slow moving and nearly didn't finish. The sex scenes felt almost stiff, and the use of the word "kitty" to refer to the woman's anatomy turned me off. At 85% I finally felt like the story had picked up and held my interest. I found Cait and CJ both likable; I could feel the connection between them, but I didn't personally connect with them.

This was my first book by Stacey Johnston. According to her dedication at the back of the book, this isn't her normal genre, so perhaps her other books would be more to my tastes.

I loved this book, it was very well writing, believable and full of hot scenes, I couldn't put it down. It's my first Stacey Johnston book but won't be my last, I am now a fan.

The story follows Australian romance author, Cait, to Miami to take part in her first book signing event. Recently divorced, she has left the kids behind and has a 10 day break planned. On the first day she meets male author CJ, the chemistry is intense, sparks fly and Cait is definitely on a path to move on from her ex. Cait and CJ have challenges before them, her ex, his crazy stalkers but most of all distance. Only these authors can write their own destinies.

Reviewed for Amo and Sarah's Book Corners.

Im going to start by saying i love all of staceys books, each new book that comes out becomes my new favourite, but in saying that Writing my Own Destiny is the total opposite to her California Dreaming series, i still got all the feels like i have with her other books but this one is a much lighter read.
I am so in love with Cait and Cj, Cait is a sassy Aussie author who goes international for her very first book signing, determined to have fun and enjoy her holiday she decides to just go with the flow.
Insert tall delicious and American, Cj is a fellow author who is attending the signing and happens to meet Cait while setting up, instant fireworks with those 2, it could be the perfect holiday fling..... or could it.
I cant recommend this book enough, if you want a lighter read that will make you laugh while giving you all the feels then this is the book for you... bring on book 2 lolz

5.0 out of 5 stars My first but NOT my last! 9 April 2017

When I agreed to read this book, the blurb had already caught my attention and had been added to my wish list. I am thoroughly happy I did!
This story of Cait is so true to the indie life! I've been a watcher for years now and am still drawn to it! Throw in that she's from Australia and it's a hit out of the park for me! The trials and tribulations of exes and new found friends escalated the book over the top! I'm a no spoiler kinda gal but let me assure you, you won't be disappointed! What happens in the US can be spread from another country with pleasure! Thinking I need to book me a trip...<3 <3

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, lusty and full of steam! 7 April 2017

“I feel everything, especially his heart as it races beneath me, alerting me of his excitement. His chest starts taking deeper breaths in and out, like waves on the shoreline. My whole body feels like it’s being sucked in towards the beach when he takes in those deep breaths and then in the next breath he is pushing me back out to sea.”

5+ everything happens for a reason Stars! I thought I loved Stacey before this book, but I’m officially obsessed!

I’ve been a fan of Stacey’s for awhile now, so when Writing My Own Destiny landed on my kindle, I knew before I started reading it that I would love it. I just didn’t know how much I’d love it! This book is completely different than her other ones. And trust me, that’s not a bad thing! If you love a good book, with heat and humor then trust me when I say you need to go one click this!

Cait is a newly divorced mother of two on her way to her first book signing as an author. And while she’s apprehensive she knows it’s something she needs to do. While at the signing she meets CJ, a male author. And when I say it’s an instant connection I mean it. You can’t deny the attraction these two have for each other! I won’t ruin much more for you, but this book is full of lust, heat, humor and did I say lust??

You can tell that Stacey puts her heart and soul into each of her books and it was no different with this one! I loved how relatable the characters are and the story flowed so well! Seriously, Stacey this is another great book! I can’t wait to see what else you have up your sleeve!

3.0 out of 5 stars What happens in Miami... 15 April 2017

Cait Murdoch is a romance writer attending her very first author signing event in Miami. What makes this special is the fact that she’s Australian and stepping out of her comfort zone for the first time after her divorce.
The one thing she’s not counting on is meeting the hot American author that will show her more than the sights of the sunny city…
This started out as quite a funny read with more than its spark of sexy. We follow Cait in a path of self-discovery after she meets CJ at the same time she experiences the cattiness and backstabbing one can find in the book world first hand.
I enjoyed Cait’s quirkiness and the way her overactive imagination mixes the things coming out of her mouth in most situations. Her male’s counterpart intensity doesn’t disappoint either and I liked the way their relationship develops. After all, she’s in for a good time and he’s the man to give it to her.
This was a cute story with a few surprises and more than a few laugh out laughs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't take the smile off my face! 3 April 2017

First thing's first. This story is nothing like Stacey Johnston's, California Dreaming Series. This story is a Romantic Comedy through and through. I literally couldn't contain my smile as I was reading or the laughter that would burst out randomly.

I LOVE Cait! She is hilarious and sassy! CJ is a typical ladies man but has an instant draw to Cait and goes for what he wants. That's where the hilarity and steaminess come in. They aren't censored together and aren't afraid to laugh when things don't go quite as planned or are too serious and need to be lightened up.

Surprisingly I felt every emotion from smiling and laughing out loud, angry at the high school acting women and tearing up even, which surprised me.

If you're ready for a ride and need a good light hearted book with some drama filled areas then here you go! This is one of Stacey Johnston's best works to date and it was something I didn't expect from her after reading her California Dreaming Series but I am extremely pleased and have found a new favorite!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a delightful read! 26 April 2017

I stumbled upon this book and author on Facebook, and was captivated by the blurb: budding Australian romance author is invited to an author event in Miami and decides to enjoy her time abroad fully, following her divorce.

Stacey Johnston is Australian herself, and I loved the little Aussie-isms in the language. Australians have different words and expressions for things, which can make for some hilarious situations. She also shows how an Australian may experience the USA, which is refreshing, since people often assume everyone is familiar with typically American things.

I enjoyed reading about an author event and the community from the point of view of an author. It made for some interesting insights.

Cait is enjoying her vacation and is determined to have some fun. When she meets fellow author CJ, sparks fly and she is happy to have this summer fling. She’s unprepared, however, for the drama that unfolds during and after the author event because of it. Throw in an ex-husband who likes to cause trouble and a heart that cannot remember that she is leaving soon, and you have a wonderful recipe for drama.

The chemistry between Cait and CJ is off the charts, and described in an almost visceral way. Cait has been hurt by her ex, and finds herself confiding in CJ. This may seem unusual for what is supposed to be a summer fling, but it suits their connection. It also helps to show that CJ is more than just a hunky piece of man; he is fiercely protective and loyal, and has a deliciously tender side to him.

The only thing that irked me a little bit was the odd typo and some commas which to me were placed oddly. The latter has probably to do with the author’s writing style. Once I was used to this, it didn’t bother me anymore.

The book concluded in a very satisfying way. I do look forward to reading about what happens after Cait returns to Australia. Perhaps Stacey can write a sequel?
