The World as He Sees It: Perspectives Series #2 Audible Audiobook – Unabridged
Gabe lives a double life. As Gabriel Henson, he works multiple jobs to support his remorseless alcoholic mother. As Tony Ryder, he does Internet porn for extra cash. When he encounters a scared young man freaking out in a nightclub, Gabe is compelled to reach out. Ever since then the memory of that young man has haunted him.
Tristan Lavelle lives his life 30 minutes at a time. After a traumatic brain injury three years ago, he gets through his days recording his life in spiral notebooks and sticky note reminders. A month after Tristan's embarrassingly public meltdown, another chance meeting with Gabe sparks a warm, emotionally fulfilling email relationship. Both men crave more but fear of the next step stands between them - until Tristan gets the opportunity to take part in a clinical trial that could improve his memory.

However, as the drug trial commenced and his improvements grew, so did my enthusiasm dwindle. To start with, I loved the excitement in Tristan at how things began to improve and that should have meant a sweet romantic growth of the relationship with Gabe. But he grew too sex mad for my liking and at times, everything seemed to revolve around when they would have sex. As time passed, there was a vagueness to how things were improving and I wasn't really clear on things, there was also less mention of his progress. The second half of the book seemed to just drift and didn't grip me as the beginning did. Such a shame and I would have loved more interaction from some of the secondary characters such as Gabe's father's and Tristans parents needed putting in their place too but they were never in it.
Ultimately this had potential but it just fell flat. Tristan tried to come across as sweet but the author made him blunt and sex mad. Now I understand that this was mainly because his memory improved and so his personality came back..But it didn't really work for me.
The premise of the book is interesting and it's written in a flowing way that carries the reader along. Despite his challenges Tristan is a real joy to read. He's the kind of person who lights up a room. That really comes across in the writing and I wish I could meet him.
Gave is somewhat more jaded by hard knocks in his life but he has such a big heart I liked him immediately. He is perfect for Tristan.
For me there was too much sex and I flicked past a lot, but this might be the very thing that attracts others.
I would heartily recommend this book to anyone who likes sweet but different.
If you've read the first book you'll know that Noel is Tristan's best friend. Up until Tristan's involvement with Gabe, Noel has been his main link to the outside world. When Tristan gets the chance to improve his condition, he grabs at the opportunity. The story is also concerned with how Noel and Gabe manage Tristan's difficulties, sometimes how this causes tension between the two. Both keep pretty big secrets from Tristan. I won't tell you what they are because I don't want to spoil the story. As Tristan improves he has to deal with these secrets, one at least which could be a deal breaker for his and Gabe's relationship.
What I liked about this story is that it didn't get bogged down in the angst, (I actually returned the first book in this series because of the amount of angst involved!). It was all about the relationship and how it grew and how the MCs dealt with the problems they faced. Like I said previously, Tristan was a joy to read about, and it was lovely to read about his HEA. Despite being part of a series, this could be read as a standalone, unless you think you'll enjoy the massive angst fest of book one. I'd definitely recommend this, and from what the author has said there's likely to be more of these two in future books.
