One minute the characters are helping someone they found...the next, they have already been captured, everything they own taken and they are locked away. This is a section that the author had TOLD the reader what happened...in a few lines as though it meant nothing. Important story lines are narrated instead of actually written in the book, so we can follow the story as it unfolds - new characters come and go and are then re-introduced which leaves you thinking...'now who is this one again'?
As I said at the beginning I liked this story - BUT I did have to stop at book six because it was just all getting too much. If the author had written the story as full length books then I believe they would have come out much better - taking shortcuts throughout just got too much for me and left me feeling almost cheated.
But anyway, the author has picked up the speed and action some in this book, vrs his other 4 in the World Burns series.. not only that, there are several new characters he introduces to the storyline also. Besides the story of a group of people trying to survive after a EMP blast.. I like how everyone works together and not cause grief within the commune for each other. I also like how the author gives fair details to some inside info as to how to attempt to try and make basic needs, such as the solar oven and few other items. Thanks Mr. Craven!
In The World Bleeds, this story is mainly about Michael, John and some kids, and the trials they go thru to survive and stay safe within their own group, while trying to find a safer place to call home. At the Homestead, all seems to be going well as everyone adapts to their new life as they work together to keep it safe. But as with all things.. there is still the loss of life as well as.. new beginnings !
In The World Bleeds, the author did great with the language, and there was one, or maybe two grammar errors.. which makes for a fantastic book to grab your copy and start reading!
Thank you Mr. Craven for such a good book, and I look forward to the next chapter in the series.
