The book Work LessMake More by James Schramko is a wakeup call to any of us caught in a job or business that may appear to be going well, but in truth is preventing us from living a free and fulfilling life.
Through his personal story the author explains how it’s possible for anyone, with the right attitude, to follow in his footsteps and build a multimillion dollar business while still having time for doing the things they enjoy.
This book does not contain motivational fluff. Each chapter sets out practical strategies for building a business while avoiding the traps of work-overload, time-poverty and burnout. The information is organised well and straight-to-the-point. The summary of “Action items“at the end of each chapter makes the author’s advice easy to review and implement.
It would be good if there was more in-depth discussion of some points. However I guess that’s not the purpose for which this book was written. It’s clear that this is not meant to be another how-to book offering "good ideas" and academic theory. Rather I see it as a guidebook or blueprint (of sorts) that shows us how to build a successful business AND lifestyle, based on the author’s real life experience.
If you are running your own business or would like to be, you probably need this book.
Having had an online business for several years and being a keen listener to James podcast on SuperFastBusiness.com I was keen to pick up a copy of "Work Less, Make More" as soon as it was available. Now having read it (and about to re-read it with the accompanying workbook), all I can say is that I wish it was available years ago. Easy to read and implement strategies and case studies make it a must read for anyone interested in starting an online business or fine tune their existing online business.
The introduction in this book alone is worth much more than you'll pay for the entire book. Work less, Make More makes you stop and question the ultimate reason you run your business. With the use of interesting stories and anecdotes, James will make you rethink not only the way you go about business, but your entire life. Easy to read, highly practical, one to pass on to friends after you're done.
When I first came across James many years ago, I was working 70, 80 - heck, even 90 hour weeks. I was making good money - but I was working myself to the bone. I love surfing and wanted time to surf - but just couldn't find it.
Now days, I work when I want, from wherever I want and I live on the beach, so can surf easily whenever I want. And, a lot of that change and success has come from the inspiration and learning I've gotten from James over the years.
I read Work LessMake More in 2 short sitting and it really does pack up all his top tips, strategies and insights into one nice little bundle.
Highly worth a read - and then a re-read to take notes. And then a refresher read every 12 months :)
DISCLAIMER: I may be a little biased because James and I are now surfing buddies. However, the reality is - I wouldn't be out there surfing the uncrowded waves with him in the middle of the day while everyone else is working if I didn't implement the stuff I've learnt from him over the years (that is now jam packed into this book for even easier consumption).
Unlike many business books I’ve read in the past, I couldn’t find an ounce of fat in ‘Work Less, Make More’. James has distilled his knowledge, experience and results into to an incredibly powerful book.
Whether it is introducing you to new knowledge or reminding you of things you already know, James keeps it simple and straightforward. And it's all from his own experience growing, running and selling some astonishingly successful businesses. I am accustomed to having to read at least four or five 'normal' business books to cover what James has nailed in one. So he's already delivering admirably on the 'Work Less' aspect.
If you can’t grow (or start) your business after reading this book, then business probably isn’t for you. And neither is reading.
Work lessmake more is not only the title of the book but of the Authors Life. The author James Schramko actually walks the talk. He writes about down to earth strategies that he has actually been using in his own business and life for many years. This is an easy read and well worth getting.
