Women's Leggings
Whether you’re preparing for a gym class or looking forward to a night out, leggings are an important asset to any girl’s wardrobe. Originating in the 15th century and first worn by men in the form of knee socks, leggings have come a long way since. Starting with the 19th century and especially after the mid-20th-century women began wearing different pants styles, which resembled today’s leggings. Famous actresses, like Audrey Hepburn, started a fashion trend by wearing stretchy pants, and after the invention of Lycra in the 70’s and 80’s leggings were embraced worldwide. Today, leggings are a staple for many and have morphed from simple black and greys to ever more colourful and stylish options.
Unsure of what to wear leggings with? The idea that leggings should be used only when going to the gym is long gone. Casual leggings as streetwear, leather leggings replacing pants and leggings paired with dresses, skirts and tops are becoming more and more fashionable. And, the variety of materials they’re made from - Lycra to cotton, leather or silk - make them suitable for any occasion.
There are plenty of options when thinking about leggings. Most importantly though, think of the season - look at the legging’s fabric and choose according to climate. Winter weather calls for a stronger and warmer fabric than summer, so your regular leggings might not cut it in the cold. When planning a night out, leather or silk leggings are the perfect choices to combine with a stylish top. As always, elegance and comfort is the key to a good mood. But if you’re looking for something more suited for home wear, jersey leggings could be a better option. Colour is also an important feature that you need to consider. Black leggings look great with dresses and offer an elegant look, a more colourful tint inspires a positive attitude.
