Nothing chilling nor suspenseful just wandered along for 300 pages. Kept hoping but nothing ever happened.

Too many arms and legs
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 December 2019Verified Purchase
I gave up on this with only 30 more pages to go on my kindle. When all the family started spilling out bizaare secrets and intertwined past histories it just turned into a farce. My head was in such a spin from all the revelations that I could hardly work out which secret was which, and where they figured in the drama.
David was another quandary, after a few words of advice from one of his clients, he turned overnight, from a controlling, bad-tempered bully into an understanding, reasonable person who was kind and loving to his wife. I don't think it quite works like that.
Over the top, and too complex in my opinion.

At last a Christmas book with a twist
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 November 2019Verified Purchase
If like me you are fed up with Christmas themed books being all about romance and snow, then you'll certainly welcome this fantastic book. A modern book which highlights the family dynamic at Christmas, yet with many twists, this is well paced, thrilling and addictive and won't make you feel you've had too many supermarket mince pies!
Congratulations on this great book, maybe a sequel next year?

NOT EXCITING BUT OK READING
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 December 2019Verified Purchase
This book is not the most gripping or exciting book I have ever read but it was different. The first half was the best because it had you wondering what the mother's next move would be and I think more could have been made of that. The second half got a bit all over the place you could follow the story line but there were to many twists and turns. In my opinion a book worth reading but is not a "can't put down read".

NOT A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 January 2020Verified Purchase
This "suspenseful psychological thriller" was, actually, not suspenseful, thrilling, or psychologically eventful. Yes, it is set at Christmas and includes so many stereotypical characters (evil mother, weak mother, brothers who hate each other, and weak, soppy heroine) that after the first two chapters, you have already guessed the "secrets" of the family and lost interest in all of them. Sorry, but just not up to expectation.

Easy Read
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 June 2020Verified Purchase
I did enjoy this book, not as much as the Girl on Gander Green, but it was good, lots of twists and turns, some unexpected ! I read it on one sunny day sitting in the garden, so at odds with the Christmas setting.I surprised myself as I rarely read a complete book in one sitting, so it must have been compelling. I will read more books by MJ Hardy
