4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great

I quite enjoyed the third novel in the Rhymes With Love series by Elizabeth Boyle, though not quite as much as the first two.

This novel had a lot going on. While we've known that Roxley and Harriet would end up together since book one, Ms. Boyle sure set up a few big long, twisty road blocks in their path!

I've liked both characters since meeting them through out the other two novels. Harriet especially. She has been an advocate for her two best friends finding and marrying the loves of their lives from the very beginning, no matter what! She did everything, whether it would be approved by polite society or not, to help her friends. I wish that the same had of been done for Harriet. I don't know if Ms. Boyle had a hard time finding ways to include them in the story she came up with or what, but I very much missed Harriet's compatriots.

The story itself is a big mystery, a who-done-it, or who-stole-it is more descriptive. While I love a good mystery, and I did enjoy this one, something was lacking a bit. And honestly, I can't say what.

The fact that Harriet was asking herself if Roxley really loved her every two seconds was rather irritating. I know that this is how most women behave, I myself have done the same in the past. But Harriet is always so sure if herself. It was out of character behavior in my opinion.

This novel had more sex scenes than the previous two. Three scenes to be exact. This book is also more violent but not overtly so. There's a bit of a fight scene in the end and two people are killed in scene and another one off scene that we hear about later.

One more thing that bugged me was that once the villain revealed himself, we know he's looking for the jewels but there was no explanation as to why he decided to not just steal the jewels from Roxley but also completely destroy is livelihood. I just don't get it.

Overall, if you like Elizabeth Boyle's books, and especially if you're reading the series, I think you'll enjoy this one. Just take it with a grain of salt!
