Rather than duplicate what many other buyers have already written regarding this impressive little piece of home security kit, I will try to focus on the more "technical aspects", as this may help others in the same boat (feel free to message me with questions RE: setup, although to be fair the tech support lady "Alice" is good as gold, she always replies to emails). As others have found; the pigeon English setup guides, are somewhat lacking in detail, but with time and a plucky attitude/bit of savvy, you get there! The network detection tool is the easiest way to get the initial config done, I wish I had known this to start with, but oh well. The P2P (HiP2P) client software is OK, I mean what do you expect for free, but again it takes some time to get your head around. It's best to do the initial config using I.E (Yes...dreaded I.E 11, as bizarrely no other browser is fully compatible, I had no "selectable motion detection zones" under "Alarm settings" in Firefox, but in I.E they are right there. One thing that might make things easier for others, is the "User" element of the P2P software, has no bearing on the IPcamera itself. The camera has only 1 user account (despite the manual demonstrating multiple accounts!) called unsurprisingly "Admin" that can't be changed, but you can set your own password thankfully. The software has a separate login using it's own SAM, but you DO have to set the device password in the camera configuration options, to be able to change the settings (yeah confusing already eh?). The P2P software is really only useful when viewing on the same LAN/Home network, once you leave home, it's a whole nother story! The initial config, despite these minor niggles, was surprisingly easy to do. Setting the camera up to work over the WAN/Internet is where it gets a bit more challenging. The easiest way is to enable "P2P" option under the advanced settings, making a note of the UID the camera has (NNNN-233546-*****), then apply. From there, using an Android smartfone, download "CamHi" app from Google Play store, run it, go to add camera, enter UID from before, give the camera a friendly name(Driveway), username=admin, password=you set, tap the tick. Display shows "Connecting-->Connected" and you're set. This app even works via mobile internet/4G and other WiFi access points.

Sadly I do not have an Android phone, being a die-hard Windows phone supporter (& a cheapskate) who refuses to buy a new phone, when the one I have is perfectly fine! This means having to get involved with DynamicDNS/Port forwarding, so you have to know your way around your home-use router {advanced} options, and create an account/DNS namespace using the free No-IP website (which is fully supported by this model camera). Once the 3 major ports the camera uses (detailed in the manual/camera settings) are forwarded through your router, to the private I.P address the camera has on your network (, you should be able to use either WAN I.P ( or DDNS namespace (myipcam.ddns.net) to "remote" into your device and monitor over the WAN from anywhere. Now..; I make that stage sound simple, but it did take me 5 hours to get it working (& apparently I know what I'm doing! ;) For the record you can use any standard browser, VLC player (open network source--> enter rtsp://myipcam.ddns.net:554/11 ), or a compatible application from the windows store (for the record all the free ones are crap so don't bother!). I've found the standard web browser approach to be the most reliable as the VLC real-time streaming protocol behaves a bit flakey behind a proxy server (when I'm at work), but it seems fine when I need to check in from a relatives house, or any other location where there is no proxy server in effect. You can select either the primary or secondary stream to view, plus you can allow remote users to make configuration changes (or not; as you like), remotely view recorded footage (if you have installed a class 10 MicroSD, 16GB = roughly 3 days of 24 hour surveillance) if you're going to be away from home longer you need a bigger card, "alarm" recordings (set off by the motion detection) can be directly recorded to the SD card, and setting up email alerts when the motion sensor goes off is also a doddle (mostly cats in the day/foxes@night). The mechanism for accessing recorded footage on the card is a little cumbersome but it's functional and gets the job done I suppose. I think I will be buying at least another 1 or 2 to keep an eye on the garden/shed/greenhouse...

The only negative that I can see is that you are only able to monitor a single camera remotely (due to only being able to forward a single port to a single internal I.P address) which could well be a limitation of my Virgin Superhub, as I know more complex router/firewall devices can do more in terms of port mapping/redirection/forwarding. I would need to login locally and alter the port number/I.P address allocation, but for the price I musn't grumble :)
