Product Description

This third enthralling instalment in the young adult fantasy romance series takes a dark turn, as the country of Brugel descends into anarchy.

Mutating magic is spreading across Europe. 'Normals' are developing supernatural powers at a startling rate and 16-year-old Ondine appears to be at the heart of it.

To unravel the mystery, Ondine and her boyfriend (and part-time ferret) Hamish infiltrate CovenCon, a gathering of hundreds of witches presided over by wanna-be-witch-queen Mrs Howser. There, she tempts Ondine with an intriguing offer - but can Mrs Howser be trusted? It transpires the powerful witch has her claws in the arrogant royal heir Lord Vincent, in a covert bid to control all of Brugel.

As dark magic riots break out in the nation's capital, Ondine is left with a heart-breaking choice that could tear her apart from her beloved Hamish. Forever.

The Winter of Magic is the third novel in Ebony McKenna's comedic and wonderfully weird four-part ONDINE series. Fans will devour this spellbinding adventure, which will have readers gasping in shock and laughing with delight. Occasionally at the same time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and fun 30 May 2017

I really like this series. It reminds me of a mixture of Terry Pratchett, Lemony Snickett and Nancy Drew. At times it is laugh out loud funny and you can't help but like the eccentric characters that McKenna has created.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love = Magic 21 February 2014
By Bramble - Published on Amazon.com

Have you read the first two Ondine books? If not then go and read them now. They're fabulous! And "The Winter of Magic" is a wonderful addition to the series.
Yet again Ebony McKenna had me giggling from the very first chapter, and I was happy to see that she hasn't abandoned her trademark endnotes which are sometimes bizarre, sometimes enlightening and always entertaining.
The path of true love isn't always easy for a Brugelish girl and her gorgeous Scottish ferret...er...boyfriend, but the journey is always a fun one for McKenna's readers. I loved the the plot of this book, as Ondine's and Hamish's relationship grants wishes and also causes mayhem. The book is fast paced and thankfully isn't weighed down with backstory (so go and read the first two!)
Above all "The Winter Of Magic" is FUN! I can't wait for the next book in the series.
5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! 22 February 2014

I was given a copy of this book by the author to read in return for an honest review.

Having read the first two books of the series, I couldn't wait to read this one, and wasn't disappointed! Ebony's fresh, witty writing style brings the characters to life and Hamish and Ondine's love story is funny without being too sugary sweet (although be warned, there is a LOT of kissing!!).
Once again there are the footnotes, a brilliant addition since book one that add extra humour to an already funny story. Some of them are pure genius!
Original, witty, full of kissing, eye-rolling and magic...one of the best books I have read in a long time!
5.0 out of 5 stars Another fun read for the young at heart. 8 November 2015
By Panthea14 - Published on Amazon.com

The third installment in the madness and mayhem of Ondine's life. The battle for power between Lord Vincent and Duchess Anathea continues, exacerbated by more than a little magic mayhem. The citizens of Bruegel discover what happens when their wishes come true as Ondine and Hamish are torn apart.
Another fun and light read for the young reader and the young at heart. This reader particularly loves the clever and witty footnotes to explain life in Bruegel. Do read Books 1 and 2 first...
