"Guide" to me means something that you can take along on a tour and easily find your way along as you look things over. If you're looking for "Next on your right is the …" or "On the wall to your left…" you won't be getting that with this book.
You will get a very nice paperback filled with historical images and photographs. The first half of the book ( more or less) is sort of a castle history, filled with photographs and drawings/ paintings done over the centuries - this runs 29 pages and is worth reading. Page 30 onwards is the "tour" portion of the book, lots of interesting detail but lacking a map to point you in any direction. Inside the front and back covers you do get "maps" (the "tour" starts in the middle of the castle… IFC the layout of the entire structure, IBC a floor plan and numbered list of the state apartments)
I'd think the best thing to do before you visit would be to go over the book carefully and take detailed notes of each room/ building so that as you go along you'll have some idea of what to look at/ for. The illustrations and text are really worthwhile, lots of details I had no knowledge of.
Well worth owning but better for planning a tour or reviving memories than carrying along on a tour, I think.
