This is the first Priscilla Masters book that I have read,it was well written and a first class story,Joanna pierce came across as very believable.l read it in 2 days and will certainly be reading more of her books.
Priscilla Masters has crafted a very convincing detective in DI Joanna Piercy, together with a setting and plot that held my attention and left me wanting more. Marilyn Smith is definitely not a nice nurse, and several people have good reason to want her dead. The suspects are believable, and the way in which their lives have intertwined with Marilyn's make this a real page-turner. The medical details are accurate, as one would expect from an author who is also a nurse. Joanna Piercy comes across as a detective with a real future. I very much hope so - I look forward to reading more of her.

...battle against all male prejudice You can imagine. This police procedural has been written in 1996, the first of a series about a female DI in - in those times - a wholly male dominion. Jokes about her private life - single, but the mistress of a married doctor - are mostly harmless. More disturbing is working with her colleague Mike Karpinsky, neither him nor his dear wifey very content to have to cope with a "marriage-buster". And when a nurse with a very dark and venomous character is found dead in her bed, obviously all made up for a very intimate guest, everyone seems baffled - at first. But the chitty-chatty about the financial resources of the nurse are leading to one solution only - that some blackmailed man has lost his temper and finally finished her. But an obvious cause of death is lacking, even the pathologist seems at the end of his wits. But DI Piercy is very determinated to solve the mystery... Author Priscilla Masters is a nurse herself, and she knows the right terms and what she is writing about. It is more riddles than suspense. The series about DI Joanna Piercy has arrived at 11 books - and no end in sight :-) ... You like an old-fashioned police procedural, which lacks all the modern technique in crime detection and is interested in the evolution of the characters? I say - read it. I have also literally devoured the following two crime stories for now, and can say, this series is very evolving into something very interesting. And I will continue with the private and professional adventures of DI Piercy. But... as I wrote - all in THIS crime story happened in 1996.
