Product Description

She’ll do anything to get him to see her as a woman...

Feisty, fearless Ellie McFarlane has tried forever to get cattle station manager, Rick Drummond, to notice she’s not another cowhand. So when her gal pals talk her into glamming up for an Outback Bachelor and Spinster ball she’s eager to prove she’s all woman, all the time, and leave her boneheaded cowboy eating dust.

Sexy wrangler Rick is crazy about Ellie just as she is but her father – his boss – told him long ago that his daughter was off limits. Even though she’s all grown up now, Rick still feels it’s his job is to protect her, not seduce her. Plus, he’s finally got an opportunity to buy back his family farm, which means moving far away.

Ellie’s transformation from Cinder-Ellie to belle of the ball has Rick’s jaw dropping – and all the other cowboys falling at her feet. Ellie tries to revel in her new-found sex-pot status but without Rick it’s a hollow victory. Has Rick left it too late to claim the only woman he’ll ever truly love...?

Don't miss the rest of The Outback Bachelor series, Woo Me by Karina Bliss (Book 2) and Wait For Me by Sarah Mayberry (Book 3)

‘The Outback Bachelor Ball’ is a contemporary rural romance novella series from Canadian Joan Kilby, New Zealander Karina Bliss and one of my favourite Aussie romance authors, Sarah Mayberry. The novellas can be read out of order as stand-alones, but they are probably best read as a trilogy – with first novella ‘Win Me’, followed by ‘Woo Me’ and concluding with ‘Wait For Me’.

Confession: I don’t particularly like rural romances. I know, I know – stone the flamin’ crows, and after I wrote a whole spiel about why people should read New Adult romance and not reject the entire subgenre out of hand too! I know. I can’t help it – but when I think “rural” I’m more likely to go to a ‘Wolf Creek’ place than a men of ‘McLeod’s Daughters’ headspace. Luckily, the ‘The Outback Bachelor Ball’ wooed me with Joan Kilby’s first instalment, ‘Win Me’ – in which we’re introduced to the series’ three heroines, who are as dubious about rural Australian courtship as I am; “Oh, yuck. It’s all drunken yobs, wet T-shirt competitions ..." ('Win Me' by Joan Kilby)

Ellie McFarlane is our first heroine – she’s coming home from America where she’s been learning all about cattle ranch management, and though she’s excited to take charge of the family business, she can’t deny that returning home to her long-time crush and station manager Rick Drummond is another plus. But Ellie has to contend with Rick’s sense of proprietary when it comes to his feelings for his boss’ daughter (the man who is also his mentor, and more of a father to him).

Countrified Cinderella goes to an Australian iconic event, the B&S. An outback Batchelors & Spinsters ball, in the land of booze-swilling, boot-skipping and swag-sex going on as the venue for three women looking for that one night fling.
For Ellie, this is her story. Her love is Rick, who has worked for 14 years on Ellie's familu station, who always treated her like a sister. Now she's back after a long work trip overseas and doing her best to get over him...
Simple quick read without any emotional attachment to characters.
The second book in this series had more sparks in the two page excerpt than I found within this whole book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun in the Outback 1 December 2015

What a fun story. If you want a little romance, fun and a vacation to the outback without leaving your reading chair and this is the perfect investment. I confess, I am on a cowboy romance kick, this has a twist, it's not Montana or Texas. Characters that have a distinct personality, a bit of a back story even for a shorter novel coupled with a HEA and you will not be disappointed!

I enjoyed this book, haven't read this author before. I purchased this because it was the first one in the series and because one of my favorite authors was writing the last one of the series. I will look for other books by her, characters were great and had great chemistry.

I often love Ms. Kiln y'all work. But this story had too little conflict and too many words. I'm going to read the Bliss book next .
