I have been looking forward to this book ever since we meet Ana and Declan in His Darkest Hunger. While that book did not focus on them, we still get to meet them and get a background on who they are and their attraction for one another. The two of them have been dancing around each other for years and in A Wicked Road to Hell they finally stop fighting what they are feeling and take their relationship to the next level.
We enter this world focusing on Declan, who is on a mission he thinks will be simple. Imagine his surprise when he sees Ana, the vampire he has loved from afar for years and one he thought was dead while on his mission. He has very mixed feelings about the unexpected reunion. He is thrilled to see her alive, but pissed off because she did not tell him. This fuels a delicious tension between the two of them and I loved watching the two of them try to sort through everything they were feeling.
I will admit I was lost a little at the beginning of this book. I read the first book in Juliana's Jaguar series, but I have not read the second two. I knew something really bad happened to Declan in the third book, but since I had not read it I did not know all the details. There were a couple other references in there that were lost on me as well, but eventually Juliana does fill in the gaps and I had a good understanding about what was going on in the world around me.
Wicked Road to Hell is a non-stop action book. There was not one dull moment in it and I was completely engrossed in this world. I loved that Juliana did not give us a second to come up for air and kept me engaged in the story from beginning to end. Declan and Ana have really gotten themselves in a mess and they are fighting to stay together constantly. Now that they have finally decided to keep one another they are not going to let go easily. There were great villains that were truly terrifying and Juliana made it easy to hate them.
As for Declan and Ana, we already had a history on them so it was easy to root for them from the beginning. They have both already been to Hell and back and have the scars to prove it. To truly be happy, they are going to have to work through those differences and learn to do it with one another. They have such an emotional journey to take and I loved being along for the ride.
Overall, Wicked Road to hell was a fantastic start to a new series and was everything I wanted out of Ana and Declan's story. I am very interested in all the people we met in this book, especially the members of the League of Guardians. There is another addition coming out in November and I will definitely be picking that up to see what happens next.
