I note that the series continues but after this book strays into the realms of Urban Fantasy. Not sure if that’s really ‘my bag’ so may leave Zoe and Eva here…will have to see….
10/1947, Bankstown Migrant Camp Sydney, Australia. Eva Muller was trying to teach Zoe Lambros (18, Eva’s lesbian partner) how to speak English.
The 2 of them went to see Mrs. Jenkins (landlady) about renting a place.
Earl “Wiggy” Wiggins (gay) was giving Eva a tour of the Johnson Brothers’ Biscuit factory.
She is a process worker who boxes biscuits.
Eva wanted Zoe to go to the Sydney College of the Arts.
Dr. Hannah Koch (55+, psychiatrist) was seeing Eva on a regular scheduled basis.
Henry Franz (retired Sergeant) was to report to the Australian War Crimes Unit Director’s office ASAP.
Director Fischer said Major Hans Muller (German, 55+) wanted Henry to work in Larissa, Greece.
Jack “Bean” Stalk 1-armed supervisor) was putting Eva with Mrs. Dunning Flossy Flute Fingers section.
Dr. Koch found Eva an interpreting job with the Interpreter Division.
Ms. Alice Birdswaite showed Henry to his office.
How will Eva Muller & Zoe Lambros lives turn out?

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.
A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written historical fiction book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great WWII movie, or better yet a mini TV series. To be continued. A very easy rating of 5 stars.

Eva is a German, victim of terrible diversion therapy performed by his stepfather's brother. And the reason for this therapy was her sexual orientation, because nothing could disgust and make her Nazi stepfather more angry than Eva being a lesbian. And rather than letting her go or disowning her, he keeps punishing her and making her life hell, especially after her mother dies.
Zoe is a Greek, first hired to help Eva when her stepfather as a high rank army officer was assigned to Greece. Eva's stepfather was responsible for killing Zoe's parents and to revenge, Zoe was determined to kill Eva. But she didn't. Instead she fell in love with her.
Mary D. Brooks has written strong characters, independent females that are determined to be together and overcome all the obstacles that life throws at them. And despite the horrors of their past, they are very hopeful of the future and what may come. Beautiful story and characters in every sense.
Where Shadows Linger can be read as stand-alone. So no worries if you haven't read the first one in the series.
