This was a really depressing book. The premise was enough to keep me reading; I wanted to know why. It wasn't really a surprise, as Simon was such a despicable character, so it was difficult to find any sympathy for him. I kept trying to understand him, but I couldn't, and it's always difficult to read a book when I don't feel connected to the main character. I did finish though, but I really wanted a lighthearted moment or two.
