If you are a Regency purist this isn't the book for you!
The dialogue of the supposed English upper-class characters is distinctly modern American, peppered with British slang. This includes such shockers as the host of the house party referring to his titled male guest as "old sod"!! This reference is derived from the word "sodomite" - and would have resulted in great offence being taken, if not a challenge to a duel issued! One of the upper class ladies also uses the reference "not a lick of sense" in speaking of a fellow guest - definitely a no-no for a gently-bred lady of the times. Scattered throughout, are some slang terms which are distinctly British lower-class, and unlikely to be used by "gentlemen" of the period.
Having said all that, I don't wish to be too harsh, as the authoress has taken pains to provide some authentic details too. I picked up a bit of interesting knowledge of the bathing practises of the time ... which quite amazingly, for all the elegance required of the higher society, occured as little as possible! (Yuck!)Also, as our heroine Eleanor is concerned with the fashions of the time, there is quite a bit of description of gowns & etc., too.
If you can deal with the clashing mixture of Americanised/British upper/lower class dialogue, the story itself is an interesting one, and ends happily for all the likeable parties... plus the ghosts!
So - if you're looking for a light, interesting, romantic "read" this is the one for you.
Also containing a few references to Jane Austen herself, her works, the terrific value of collectible items of hers nowadays, and a bit of dialogue (including advice for our heroine) from Miss Austen herself.

OMG!
This book is pretty sweet!
What I didn't expect was the amount 'touchy-touchy' content it had though. (Clearly I don't look at the covers).
Get this book if you love Jane Austen like me. Or you will regret it :D

First, I must state that I enjoyed this story. It was a lighthearted romance with a touch of magic and intrigue.
However, the author switched point of view too many times. I'd be reading from Eleanor's point of view and a thought from Shermont would pop in, then back to Eleanor.
This took me out of the story several times. If the author had not done this so often, I would have enjoyed this romance more.

"What Would Jane Austen Do?" was the heroine's refrain when deciding how best to proceed after she was transported back to the Regency Era. It was less about Jane Austen and more the heroine's reference point since she loved Jane Austen and her books. It certainly was an interesting perpective and provided for "realistic" tidbits about Jane Austen and her life. I thought the author did a good job of bringing the Regency period to life although some of the language used was not fitting to the period. I guess it was an effort to keep Eleanor a true construct of the 21st century. Actually, the Regency era felt more real than the 21st century, maybe because Eleanor spent most of her time there and the characters were more fleshed out. I didn't remember reading about Kirsten and then she's the maid of honor! Maybe I didn't read carefully enough...
I liked the time travel aspect and the sweet ghosts. The mystery of the double agent was easily discerned but the consequences we not: knowing the truth helped the girls forge a different future. The happily ever afters were a little too pat and sweet (of course the jewels are in the cabinet! of course the girls are ok with their journals being turned into a docudrama! etc!).
This book was very easy to read and I finished it in an afternoon. I recomend it for anyone looking for a sweet, easy romance with a little Jane Austen thrown in.

A great time travel romance.

Eleanor really likes Jane Austen and the Regency period of England. But admiring that time in history and living it are two different things. While at her stay in a hotel she goes to sleep and finds herself living in another time and place? Not only that she is dealing with a couple of ghosts who are now haunting her. Elanour really misses all the modern comforts of home even as she's getting to live in such a time period. She even in the course of the book actually has a chance to meet Jane Austen. But she she can't settle herself in to her new reality too much because she has a mystery to solve. Will she be able to solve the mystery and will she make it back home to her own time? Will she be able to leave the man behind that she's been falling for while she's been living in the past? To me this was a real entertaining mystery novel with a cute concept that kept me turning the next page button on my Kindle.
