I want to know what happens next. The Alison was looking for excitement and Tom very proper British. Sore the good in Everything. Bailey was weak. She should have looked at his lifestyle to it wasn't long term. Greichen had done the same to friends before. Total psychopath. Had to have everything and took what she wanted.
This is the first book I've read by this author but I plan to read more. The book was well written and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This is a very good psychological thriller and I enjoyed reading it. I have to say I felt disappointed with the ending. I guess we have to use our imagination.

I feel this book hasn't agreed well with its constant references to manic depression, which is not a term used anymore, and its laboured tropish treatment of mental illness. The ending is unsatisfactory, despite being a rather addictive read.

A well thought out storyline that keeps on moving quickly until the last page because the story is left in limbo, as if author couldn’t think of a plausible ending.

Have read several of Lucy’s novels, this one seems like an early one, very self indulgent narrator, unsympathetic characters. Disappointment for me, have enjoyed her other books far more

⭐⭐⭐⭐Another great suspense filled read from Lucy Dawson. It started off seemingly innocently enough but I quickly became swept up in it and it's twists. Lucy Dawson's writing is captivating. #whatmybestfrienddid #lucydawson #tea_sipping_bookworm #goodreads #litsy #storygraph #bookqueen #thriller #bookstagram #plottwists #amazonkindle

Where is the end? It's like it's just completely missing. It's like you've read through the whole book anticipating the end and the last chapter is gone. This is the second book of Lucy's I've read and it's the same for both. Don't get me wrong it's gripping and thrilling and a great read but....

NOT a thriller.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 May 2019Verified Purchase
Two female characters, Alison and Gretchen; how they meet, form a friendship. Two male characters; Tom, Alison's live-in partner and Bailey, Gretchen's brother, all around 30 years old. The only mature person in this long-winded tedious story is Tom, the others behave like teenagers. A minor thing I found irritating is these women referring to themselves and their friends as 'girls' which is commonly used in books and the media. I personally feel that over the age of 18 you are a woman and it's belittling to use any other term. This book had no real conclusion, its as though the author couldn't think of anything more to write or was as bored with the whole story - as I was.

Disappointed

Firstly I wouldn't call it a fast paced thriller. It's the story of somebody with a mental illness that to be honest, the author should have researched a little more on. Yes it's fiction, but being somebody that actually does have this mental illness, the character is poorly portrayed. Was excited about this book having read a book by author before but it's more like the diary of a silly love sick girl in an adult world.

I didn't want it to end ...

Oh my days! I galloped through this book - almost manically . Totally credible characters, flawed yet human. Gretchen is a vile beast of a woman, manipulative and driven . To what extent is she a victim of her depressive disorder? This book deals with the fallout of mania but also touched on a far less well known mental illness - Gretchen exhibits so
many traits of Borderline Personality Disorder. She is a destructive force who unleashes her poison into everything she touches . I felt terribly sorry for Alice and Tom, even Bailey towards the end. Her brother will always be her sacrificial lamb and had no chance of ever maintaining any semblance of a normal relationship. I have personal experience of Borderline Personality Disorder and Lucy Dawson really does capture the devastation it causes. This was more than chicklit - a psychological thriller with a pathological liar at its heart who, like a black widow, devours her prey. It is a dark story about control and chaos . Compelling.

Disappointing.

Promising start and I read with enthusiasm until the last 10percent. Became repetitive, tedious and just plain boring. The conclusion (what conclusion?) was a damp squib and I had the impression that the author just couldn’t see her way out of the situation she had created. Very disappointed as I have read others of hers that were good.

I liked some of the other author's books but was disappointed and this was no thriller. Unlikeable characters apart from Tom. Very fractured story. Ending not really satisfactory.
