I have enjoyed other books by this author but this did not match up. Unlike others in the series so far, I had to give up on it... I just could not keep going. Reading a novel should not be hard work but this was...
Silver, the lead female character was one of those TSTL characters (yes, that is Too Stupid To Live in romance lingo) and sorry, but Weston repeating that she was 'smart' did not make her so, it just made me more annoyed. The writing was was also repetitive and drawn out.
Tip: skip this book and go to the next one in the series.

I enjoyed how this story showed the emotional growth of Silver and how Weston's feelings for Silver allowed him to cut through the step. Really liked the way the relationship developed and how Sum at chose the right way in the end.

The Gemini Group series is such a great read. Typical Riley Edwards with hot alpha male and insta love female in trouble and needing to be saved. This is Weston and Silver’s story and oh boy is she one messed up woman. She is definitely the product of a vile and toxic mother who hates her and a father who treats her like a buddy not a daughter. She is also stubborn and won’t listen when told she is in danger. Enter her protector Weston who spends most of this book talking her off the ledge over some irrational topic. Her parents certainly did a number on her and she really is a nutcase with absolutely no self worth whatsoever. A lot of men would have given up on her, Weston didn’t. I enjoyed this read but believe the only treasure in this story is Weston.

Weston is a part of a team tasked to take down a drug smuggling team. When he gets Silver kicked off the team, she’s livid and rips him a new one🤬 Suffice to say this is the foreplay to their relationship which soon takes on a new meaning, especially after Weston rescues her from said drug smugglers😍
This story was suspenseful and filled with steamy scenes, some romance, some action packed moments and one ”blow me” away cliffhanger into Alec’s story😅 A must read story❣️

Good writing let down by lack of realism
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 April 2020Verified Purchase
The plot line in one line:
Silver is a mariner who has uncovered a drug trafficking gang at sea and, after putting herself at risk to get evidence of their crime, she has to be rescued by former SEAL Weston, who despite being annoyed that she ignored his advice to stay out of things, quickly falls for this stubborn woman.
The good and the bad:
I stopped reading this at the 46% mark, mainly because I had issues unrealistic aspects and the fact that we missed a crucial part of the hero and heroine’s relationship (and kept being reminded of the fact!). So while I actually quite liked the style of writing, I can’t justify giving the book more than a star as I ultimately found it unreadable.
We join Silver and Weston when the latter is rescuing the former from a ship carrying cocaine - weeks after their first encounter at which the dynamics of their relationship were established. This previous encounter – a meeting between Silver and Weston’s team, called “Gemini Group” - was pretty crucial. It was the first time they laid eyes on (and fancied) each other, the point at which they realised they “hated” each other and there was an explosive argument during which Weston warned Silver not to get involved with stopping the drug traffickers, leading to the point at which the book starts. Bit by bit, the reader is drip fed information about this encounter and I found myself really annoyed that I hadn’t been clued in from the outset. In romance books, the bit where the hero and heroine meet - and in this case fall out - is an essential part of buying into their story and building tension. I felt cheated.
I found it hard to buy into the story because of some unrealistic stuff as well, like at this meeting with Weston and his elite squad who are carrying out operations for the US government, Silver was allowed to be present as they discussed strategy for bringing down a huge drug trafficking group. She definitely would not have had the security clearance for this.
Silver and Weston share a bed every night, and he gives her multiple orgasms each evening, yet he manages not to have sex with her, or let her sort him out or indeed touch him anywhere below his chest. Even though he loves her.
And then there is the little chat Weston and his boss have about the latter’s feelings for Silver. Weston tells his boss (who is at Weston's house not for a heart-to-heart but because he’s angry that his team’s major operation to bring down an international drug trafficking group has gone awry): “The stubborn attitude is bullshit. She hides behind it, but once you crack through just a tiny bit you get something that’s unbelievably soft. My guess is once I get there and she trusts me, it will be better. It’ll be treasure.” I’m sorry, but guys don’t talk like this, especially not when they are neck-deep in an operation for the US government.
Also, there are frequent references to Silver being “treasure”, which I found too corny and repetitive, even if it does explain the name of this book.
As I said, I quite liked the writing style itself, I just wish the authenticity of the situations had been there – and we hadn’t been cheated out of that all-important first encounter and fireworks!

Dramatic and complex

I really enjoyed this novel as it was slightly different to her other excellent books. There was, of course, action but it was more internalised this time. The real battle was between the two lead characters as they struggled to work each other out and understand the other’s flaws and strengths and I was absorbed by the process. I have never met such a challenging heroine but Riley really made me like her despite her complex and difficult behaviour and I was impressed with how she did this. Weston was a strong character too and so secure in his parents’ love he could cope with anything life threw at him. The issue of contraception in a relationship was also explored in a more complex and surprising manner here. I felt she took risks in this novel and they paid off. A great read.

A good romance

The author never really deviates from her writing style and this book is no exception. It delivers exactly what it promised in the blurb.
I have to admit that Weston deserves a medal for the way he sees through Silver, for the way he slowly brings her character forward.
There are some sex scenes each of them appropriate and loving.

Loved this book, the dynamic was great, and so good to see the female character struggle with trust and a fast developing relationship. Weston was a great character, loved not only his pretotective instinct but also his constant support of Silver, helping her move forward from the past. Loved. It. Cannot wait for everyone else's stories!
