The DVD cover was a bit of an indication that Season 6 of Wentworth would be different, since the only three characters on it, have not appeared in prior seasons. I actually wondered if the character on the right was supposed to be Bea, back as a ghost or something, but it's not. So after the breakout by Franky and Joan, Wentworth is in lock down, and the women aren't happy. While in lockdown two new arrivals (well there's more but the others are pretty much extras) enter the prison. One is a young indigenous boxer on remand, the other an older indigenous woman who is a member of biker club also has some mad fighting skills, and has deliberately got herself incarcerated. The other woman on the DVD cover is a celebrity criminal family head, who has stuffed up and finally been put between bars. She doesn't appear for a few episodes and really is like a watered down version of Jacs from season one.
Franky is of course trying to clear her name while on the run, but doing stuff that isn't the most intelligent if you don't want to get caught, starting with wearing a hoodie and looking sketchy when walking around. Why wouldn't she just get a large pair of sunglasses, cap, some headphones (keep them turned off obviously) and some active wear so she can pretend she's a jogger if she thinks someone might spot her. Cut her hair and change her appearance. Joan of course is also wanted by the police. Jackson isn't mentally coping with what he did at the end of season 5 and the question remains, is Joan really no longer a threat? As the episodes continue that question raises its head more and more and someone is seriously hassling Vera at home.
For me season six was just going through the motions for most of it. Since most of the cast from the initial season/s has either died or been released, it's really up to these new characters along with Kaz who's still the alpha inmate by default to entertain the viewer. The two indigenous characters Rita and Ruby were great new editions, but they are pretty much what the storylines are about and you kind of miss the tension of the top dog power struggle and their respective camps of inmates. Kaz doesn't really have the presence that Franky, Bea and even Joan had to be top dog from a viewer point of view as well as amongst the inmates. Sonia is back, she wants vengeance and of course Liz is freaking out. Boomer is pretty much besides Liz the only other original inmate and with the over the top fighting skills of the new inmates (there's even a fight club for the dark web going on), she seems to be less intimidating and without purpose and just there to be highlighted that her character isn't too bright. But without giving anything away, Wentworth becomes really good again over the last couple of episodes of season six. It would have been a fitting ending to the show, however it has been announced there will be a season seven.
