Humans have managed to survive well enough so far, but the challenges presented by having 3 degrees of climate change warming, not being able to use any fossil fuels at all, and the world being controlled by seven multi-national corporations just keep coming. When Gillian's mother uncovers a problem, Gillian and her friends have to do anything they can to save her mother and all of humanity.
On one level this book is an enjoyable adventure story, suitable for 11 to 14 year olds, but it also furnishes a vivid depiction of a realistic near future post collapse world for anyone interested in what a survivable post carbon world really looks like.

Weevils!

I highly rate Scarlett Patrick's 'Weevils' - a near future sci-fi that has a range of likeable, struggling characters who refuse to accept human enginered ecological catastrophe. The novel reads something like Susan Cooper fantasy adventure yet planted in a gritty social realism which represents living with a future impacted by climate change & corruption. Well worth a read.
