Philip Kotler S. C. Johnson Distinguished Professor of International Marketing, Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University After reading Troy Anderson's book, I am going to recommend that companies seek out Go players to design and manage their business strategies. A delightful account of how playing the game of Go can lead to the development of a superior strategic mind-set.
Wade Lagrone Director of Product Management, Yahoo! Finance A terrific account. Thanks to Anderson, the strategic lessons from Go are available to anybody. There's a lot here worth learning. If life is a game of Go, one of your opening moves should be to read this book.
Allan Levy Managing Partner and COO, Business Performance Management, Inc. This book is a gem -- at once thought provoking, entertaining, and strategic. I ran across Troy's book while looking for strategy books on Amazon. I bought it because It is more about strategy and less about playing Go. He covered eight dimensions of strategy which after much refection I found I could apply to all aspects in life. Through out my day at work, I often think about my day to day tasks in Troy's terms of Global/Local, Slack/Taut and Owe/Save as I try to make sense of my priorities of the day. My long to-do list is no longer a list of random tasks that is sorted by deadlines but is now a list of moves that is to accomplish a purpose of controlling an area of my work.
I gave Troy's book four stars because I felt that that I had to work harder than necessary in to pull out some of the more useful ideas from his book. Perhaps these four stars tells more about my ability to understand than the quality of Troy's presentation.
