War Witch is a fast paced action packed urban fantasy with a strong female lead who can kick butt anytime of day but who certainly feels too much.
I absolutely loved this book. There is so much going on - politics, betrayal, romance, magic, witches, shifters, humans, demons, and not to mention the main character’s P.T.S.D - but it all flows smoothly from scene to scene and pulls you into this world that is harsh and unforgiving but not entirely unlike our own.
Nash’s world building is a masterpiece, the writing is spot on, and if there is any editing errors; I was too entranced by the world in the pages to notice.
Nash explores what it is like for the survivors to live post war. She uses her writing to explore the rigidness and injustice of post war politics, the fear and prejudice of the people, and the very true effect it can have on the ones who fought during the war; P.T.S.D. This was all wrapped up in a tale of betrayal and magic that will get any true urban fantasy fan devouring hungrily until the very end.
War Witch is not a happy go lucky story but it is a fantastic one, and, while the main plot was sufficiently tied off at the end, it was definitely not the last we’ll hear of Lily the War Witch.
