Product description
Review
I love him. It's said that a Jack Reacher novel is bought every four seconds somewhere in the world. He is to crime fiction what Clint Eastwood's 'man with no name' was to the western. Lee Child's genius in 17 novels has been to create a tough guy hero that men will envy and women will adore. ― Daily Express
Pure escapism...He has redefined the thriller for the 21st century...Reacher is a knight errant every bit as much as Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe was. ...stunningly good. -- Henry Sutton ― Daily Mirror
I am no longer (if I ever was) an unbiased critic. I am more of a Lee Child fan. I am pro-Reacher, his massive but benevolent brute of a drifter, vigilante hero....I'll definitely barrel through the next one too. -- Andy Martin ― Independent
Smart, breathless...more ingenious than other Reacher books have been about the underground activities Reacher is thwarting. -- Janet Maslin ― New York Times
A fascinating, swaggeringly confident performance ― Sunday Times

I really enjoy reading Jack Reacher escapades and Lee Child's novels. He's a great writer and story teller. I would recommend him to everyone. So Not Wish that they not have casted friggin Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher. Grrr!, Idiots.

The only thing that spoils these books is the thought of Tom [short arse] Cruise playing Jack Reacher who is supposed to be 6 foot 5!

Sadly it left me bored rigid and glad when it was over...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 May 2018Verified Purchase
I love the Reacher series and have read them in order from book 1 to 17 (this one) - but the one over-riding word that comes to mind with this book is 'Boring'. I was just thoroughly bored. Previous books have - in the main - been difficult to put down. This one was difficult to keep reading and became a real chore to get through and I was actually pleased when it was finally over. Sorry Lee - but that's how it left me feeling. The next book is apparently called "Never go back". I might just take that as direct advice after reading some of the reviews on that one...

I liked this one but...

...sometimes I find Lee Child's stories too far-fetched but this one isn't as much as some of his others. It is time now for Reacher to have a brush with the real world and be touched by some form of emotional drama that changes him or his world slightly. Otherwise all the stories seem to have the same pattern and predictable outcomes.

Not one of his best
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 March 2017Verified Purchase
Not one of his best but very readable. The usual intrigue is there but I don’t know if I’d have enjoyed this book if I didn’t already know Jack Reacher.
I wanted more action, thrills, edge-of-my-seat stuff. I don’t need total realism. I get that in the newspaper. But the baddy was not realistic enough.
Don’t make this your first Reacher book. Enjoy an earlier one so that you won’t be put off these great stories.

Time to kill off Reacher?
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 July 2013Verified Purchase
Previous Jack Reacher books have generally been of a very high level, and it was on the strength of these that I purchased "A Wanted Man". Very disappointing. As another reviewer wrote, a large section of the book takes place in the confines of a car. Frankly, this was really boring. When were we going to get to what Reacher does best, busting heads and solving mysteries?
When he eventually sets his mind to finding the bad guys you can almost hear the rustle of him donning his superman cape. He goes from wooden-headed driver (no chance of doing something to the bad guys early on? Really? Previous incarnations would have seen him flatten everyone around him and bed the girl without breaking sweat. Now he drives along and spends tens of thousands of words describing the scenery to us).
Superman costume donned he sets off and spots clues where there were none, makes deductions that would have Sherlock Holmes breaking his violin over Dr. Watson's head in frustration and generally being .. oh I don't know, Superman?
When I found myself re-reading a three-day old newspaper in preference to this rubbish, I gave up with only a couple of chapters to go, something I have never done before.
A very, very poor book that makes me wonder if Lee Child bothers to put in the work now he has made his money out of the Tom Cruise movie, or has just run out of ideas.
Any more of his and time to kill off Reacher.

What a disapppointment! I have had a busy time at work since it was released, and have waited for Easter weekend to piurchase and read this; wish I hadn't bothered. What an utter letdown. I have read and re-read all the Reacher books, and apart from 61 Hours which was OK I have leved them all, but this was dire. Plot is unbelievable, Reacher uses his brain and not his fists for fully three quarters of the book, there is no love (lust) interest, and where are the baddies? I like the bad guy to either be visible throughout (The Hoths in Gone Tomorrow, The Lec in One Shot) or anonymous but nasty until the end (Bad Luck and Trouble, The Visitor), but here there is no major villain and no action until the end. I read a previous review where the reviewer surmised that the book was written as it would be more believable if made into a Tom Cruise film, and I agree with this, and while I am not going to be dragged into the Tom Cruise/Reacher debate I think Mr Child needs to think about the fans who have put him where he is; write the books for the fans and let Hollywood do what it wants with them to accomodate Mr Cruise. Massive, massive letdown!!!
