Product Description

Hello. My name is Paul DeLisle. I’m the guy who wrote this book. You've probably never heard of me. That's okay. Most people wouldn't know me from Adam. But, unless you've been living in a cloistered monastery for the last fifteen years, you have heard of my band.

So begins the memoir of the creation, rise, and current state of the multi-platinum recording artist Smash Mouth as told by bassist Paul DeLisle. Well known for their hits “All Star,” “Walking on the Sun,” “Then the Morning Comes,” “Can’t Get Enough of You Baby,” and “I’m a Believer,” the band carried the spirit of a generation, but didn't stop there. Enjoy this behind-the-scenes look from Paul’s unique, there from the start, insider’s view.

Well penned, sensitively written, informative and an extremely entertaining chronicle of this No 1 band's journey through the music industry where they still enjoy great success. Paul DeLisle has an accomplished writing style which would auger well for a career as a novelist if he ever puts down the bass.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot hot hot! 30 June 2015

I have been their #1 fan since I first heard Nervous In The Alley on KOME in 1996 when I was an intern at the station. I couldn't yet go to their club/bar shows cuz I wasn't yet 21 and I didn't have a car to get to them. Shortly after I turned 21, my first show was at 1996's Kamp Kome, where the guys played the side stage. I stood right in front of Paul during the performance and watched in awe as I fell in love with this band! I was hooked. I went to as many of the local club shows as I could. I saw them about once a week that first year. At first I was too nervous to introduce myself, but it was hard not to notice me when at a few of the shows there was only like 15 people and 14 were friends/family. I was mainly just a fly on the wall that first year. Hanging back and watching. I couldn't fathom the fame that was about to hit the band. Here I am 19 years later and I am still their #1 fan and they know it! I love all the guys and would do almost anything for them (including finish eating Steve's flaming hot scrambled eggs that Guy Fieri cooked up)!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun and honest read! 28 June 2015

A great summary of the bands history. I had the privilege of hearing a few of these stories from Paul in person when I met him in 2006. (I'll never forget being invited on stage to sing with them that night). He's just as honest in person as he is on the pages of this book. A must read for Smash Mouth fans, and really cool to have all this information in one place.

5.0 out of 5 stars An 'All Star' book! 30 June 2015

I usually don't go for biographies, but I love Smash Mouth and a friend recommended it. It's a fast, fun read. I could totally hear Paul's voice as I read. It was full of neat background information on the band and how they got to where they are. I drove my husband crazy last night reading trivia out loud as I came across it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Hip, Fresh, Fun Book 2 August 2015
By Teressa Morris - Published on Amazon.com
Very simply, Walkin’ On the Sun, the Official Smash Mouth Biography, is a brief, chronological history of the band, including how they met, their meteoric success and their struggle to remain relevant 20 years later.

But to elaborate, this book is hip, fresh and fun, with a writing style very similar to the “nouveau-groovy 60’s throwback” style for which their most popular songs are known. I’m talking about the eponymous Walkin’ On the Sun, not to mention Can’t Get Enough of You Baby, All Star, Then the Morning Comes, and of course, I’m a Believer.

I loved how excited and grateful DeLisle is for all the good things that have happened for him and the band. Did you know Smash Mouth was discovered by a young Carson Daly? Or that Neil Diamond was a huge Smash Mouth fan?

I give Walkin’ On the Sun five stars!! It’s a fast read, and tons of fun for fans of 90’s music (how could that be 20 years ago?)

I received a complimentary copy of this book for the purpose of review. All opinions are 100% my own.
3.0 out of 5 stars Origins of Smash Mouth 20 June 2016

I'm not a big fan of Smash Mouth though I do know three of their popular songs that were discussed in this book. I liked the author's (it's a word, look it up!) asides (and even his one "it's not a word, don't look it up). While I respect that the book tried to keep the author's "voice" in mind, I found parts of it hard to read and follow.
