This is a marvellous book about human trauma - about how it develops, where it resides in us and how it can be healed. The key is to be found in the felt experience of our physical bodies rather than in our thoughts or emotions.
Peter Levine writes simply, clearly and with compassion, avoiding a dense or abstract writing style. He illustrates his major points with very relevant case studies that come from his thousands of hours of helping people heal their trauma.
Levine has deliberately written the book so that if the reader is not too badly traumatised they can use his approaches to heal their own traumatic experiences from the past; and also process traumatic events so that trauma in the future is minimised.
This is a thought provoking and rewarding book and ultimately very practical. It teaches skills we would all benefit from knowing.
