This book is set in small town Southern USA where there is a dreadful discovery in the woods and the local police call in a forensic investigator. Ramsey meets up with the local ghost hunter and investigates what seems to be a pattern of deaths over the years associated with a strange mist. Ramsey and Dev both have troubled backgrounds but come to care about each other as they investigate - can they trust each other enough to make a lasting relationship ?
You really have to suspend the disbelief for this one. We are talking ghosts, conspiracies, secret passages and generations of killings carefully revealed in hidden journals. The story rolls along well and is enjoyable enough but this isn't a book rooted in reality and the author does tend to pile on the improbabilities.
If you are a fan of romantic suspense then this is OK - but there are better.
This is a very interesting and suspenseful story with a lot of multi-layered characters and some interesting subplots that span generations. There's an interesting dash of the supernatural and some good chemistry between Ramsey snd Devlin. Well-worth reading.
Have read many of Brant's novels, but have found the plots to be redundant, and she overloads with detailed sexual encounters. I tend to go with Baldacci-type writing that offers excellent, novel plots, and which doesn't rely on excessive content to sell.
