What a wonderful, heart wrenching /warming tale. Poor Emma, unless you've suffered under the hands of physical/ verbal abuse you may not engage entirely with her traumatic life to see what it brings you down to. So well written in this regard. If she didn't have Chloe I don't know what she would've done. AND then to suffer again while escaping, only to return all the more tougher to it.

Ah Aiden wow. You have to read it to see what an amazing man he is. Of course a dramatic HEA. This shows how you have to treasure the life you have & how others suffer. It can happen to anyone, as in this tale you always assume it's the only the disadvantaged that it affects. How wrong.

Join Emma in finding a new life through her escape. Big kiss & hug to Gran too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cherry on top 13 November 2013

After reading the Valbaara-series, I thought nothing can top these two books but this one literally was the cherry. I basically have sucked in this book.

The story of Emma and Aiden made me smile, laugh and almost cry. I felt so deeply for Emma especially the flashbacks were written so heart wrenching realistic that I wanted to grab and just save her. And Aiden is not just the most stunning heartthrob-bloke (first I've been really confused by the word 'bloke' but now I love it) but a REAL man. Exactly the one Emma needs by her side.

I never know what to write in a review without giving too much away of a wonderful story but I can tell I have enjoyed this book so much. I fully recommend it because the sensitive topic and the way this awesome love story was written around it, deeply touched my heart.

As always this is a book written with so much heart blood and palpable love.

Personal note: Thank you so much for Aiden and those hidden Easter eggs, Michelle! ;)

5.0 out of 5 stars Will you be my eagle? 16 March 2017

I don't think there is anything Michelle Horst can write that she doesn't slay. I know this book has been around for some time but I was happy to discover this great book. It's a unique story with a hero who isn't some big strong I never cry manly man.

Emma has a very bad life. Her mum is the absolute worst of the worst. She's a vile human to Emma and because of this she has damaged her in ways that even I don't think will fully be done. In a spontaneous moment she flees to the USA.

Aiden is very sensitive yet manly gentleman. He accepts a roommate thinking he's getting another guy instead the beautiful Emma shows up. He comes from a nice southern family but they've experienced lost. His life and hers collide.

This was a very sweet love story filled with drama and action. I wasn't expecting some of the twists but that's a Michelle Horst book for you. I had a hard time with how she talked to her mum in third person and I kept saying that it was probably a common thing there or some weird quirk. Only minor spelling issues but all in all one of my favorite books.
4.0 out of 5 stars Why oh why... 2 March 2017

Do your books tear my heart out only to put it back together again Michelle. I know that as soon as I start reading I'm not going to be able to put it down until the very last page. You have an uncanny ability to create stories where the emotions not just jump out of you from the pages but literally hit you with the force of a steam train, whether it's fear, sadness, despair, passion, hope or love. Wake Me Up runs the whole gauntlet of emotions, the characters have such depth to them no one can dare call them 2D and it leaves the reader wanting to reach out if only to hold, hug, laugh and cry with them as if they are your friend in real life. Never stop writing because it's authors with your talent who give us the reader the chance to see and feel more deeply through your words.

5.0 out of 5 stars Go Read this Book! 12 July 2014

This is an exciting story about breaking free of what other's want for us and learning to be the person we want to be. Emma has left England for Chapel Hill North Carolina to get away from her troubles. Chloe is her best friend from nursing school and is still in England dealing with her own issues. Aiden is the first person Emma truly meets in her new hometown on her first night out on the town. The plot thickens as Emma and Aiden find out that they are roommates. As the plot continues to thicken Emma has to make some pretty big decisions that could potentially change everything. This book is fast paced and thick with twists and turns. I found it to be an amazing and captivating read. I look forward to more from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful heartwrenching story 8 August 2014

Wake Me Up was real and drenched in emotions that left me breathless. The courage our main character, Emma portrayed when she escaped her mother’s abuse and went to the US was humbling. Only she didn’t find peace there, she found Aiden. Sweet Aiden, who made her face herself and her inner demons.

My heart broke for Emma when reading her POV but I celebrated while reading Aiden’s POV. Because if anyone could break through Emma’s layers of distrust, it’s Aiden.
