Book Three in The Outback Bachelor Ball Series

Sometimes it pays to wait for the things you want, even if it’s the hardest thing you ever do.

Beth Walker hasn’t just been burned by her philandering country music star ex, she’s been barbecued to a crisp. Coming home to Australia and into the arms of her best friends is exactly the balm she needs. Cocktails and laughter at an Outback Bachelor and Spinster Ball seem like the perfect distraction. Until she bumps into the last person she wants seeing her heartsick and pathetic — Jonah Masters, rising country music star and witness to the failure of her marriage. If only she’d met Jonah first. Now she’s broken and won’t ask him to wait until she heals.

Jonah can’t believe he and Beth are finally standing under the same stars. The connection they shared on the road years ago has haunted him but he wouldn’t pursue a married woman. Now she’s free, and Jonah can’t refuse the one night Beth impulsively offers. Can he convince the woman he’s always loved that he’ll wait — however long it takes — for her trust?

Wait For Me is Book 3 in The Outback Bachelor Ball Series. Don't miss out on Book 1 - Win Me by Joan Kilby and Book 2 - Woo Me by Karina Bliss.

*** SERIES review ***

‘The Outback Bachelor Ball’ is a contemporary rural romance novella series from Canadian Joan Kilby, New Zealander Karina Bliss and one of my favourite Aussie romance authors, Sarah Mayberry. The novellas can be read out of order as stand-alones, but they are probably best read as a trilogy – with first novella ‘Win Me’, followed by ‘Woo Me’ and concluding with ‘Wait For Me’.

Confession: I don’t particularly like rural romances. I know, I know – stone the flamin’ crows, and after I wrote a whole spiel about why people should read New Adult romance and not reject the entire subgenre out of hand too! I know. I can’t help it – but when I think “rural” I’m more likely to go to a ‘Wolf Creek’ place than a men of ‘McLeod’s Daughters’ headspace. Luckily, the ‘The Outback Bachelor Ball’ wooed me with Joan Kilby’s first instalment, ‘Win Me’ – in which we’re introduced to the series’ three heroines, who are as dubious about rural Australian courtship as I am; “Oh, yuck. It’s all drunken yobs, wet T-shirt competitions ..." ('Win Me' by Joan Kilby)

Ellie McFarlane is our first heroine – she’s coming home from America where she’s been learning all about cattle ranch management, and though she’s excited to take charge of the family business, she can’t deny that returning home to her long-time crush and station manager Rick Drummond is another plus. But Ellie has to contend with Rick’s sense of proprietary when it comes to his feelings for his boss’ daughter (the man who is also his mentor, and more of a father to him).

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid read 30 October 2015

OK, this review is going to be short and unfulfilling, b/c my mind is just not staying attached to my body long enough to write coherent sentences. I love Ms. Mayberry's writing, and thoroughly enjoyed this book too. I had a bit of a harder time getting my head wrapped around Beth and who she was, or it seemed to take longer than normal anyways. This could have been just a me thing though. Jonah, on the other hand, I enjoyed from the first moment we met him. He was uber sweet and understanding and patient and in the words of Beth "too perfect". But it wasn't too good to be I believed that he could really be that good of a person.

As usual, the steamy scenes were delicious. And the banter between them when they were having fun was great as well. I even really enjoyed Bill and Judy, they made me laugh so hard.

So basically this was an easy one-click for me. Even though I didn't always connect with the one MC, it was still a solid read.
5.0 out of 5 stars Story of a Woman Finding Herself and Love Again 25 October 2015

FINAL DECISION: The story of a woman who loses everything and finds a man at the wrong time. Sad, sweet and incredibly romantic, I loved the characters and the complexity of the story.

THE STORY: Beth Walker has almost be destroyed by her famous country music star husband. She finds out he has been cheating on her with multitudes of women. The tabloids have been exposing the affairs and chasing her around America. She decides to join her friends at home at the Outback Bachelor and Spinster Ball not to find a man but rather to be with her friends. At the ball, Beth ends up seeing Jonah Masters, a rising country music star, who she met three years ago when she was traveling with her husband during a tour. Jonah felt a connection with her then but it couldn't go anywhere because of her marriage. Now she is available, but it is the wrong time for her as she tries to recover from her marriage and built a new life for herself. Beth can't ask Jonah to wait, but he thinks she is worth it.

OPINION: I fell a little bit in love with Jonah myself. Thoughtful, respectful, a good man, caring and willing to do anything for Beth, he is exactly what Beth needs in a man. Unfortunately, it is the wrong time for her as she is still trying to deal with the fallout from her marriage. I liked that the book showed the connection between Beth and Jonah but didn't rush their relationship. By the time they have their happy ending at the end, I sighed and smiled at their journey. This was my favorite story of the series because it felt the most complex. Although the book primarily focuses on a short period of time, the relationship between Beth and Jonah begins three years earlier and thus they have a more complex relationship.

WORTH MENTIONING: This novella packs a lot into a short book. I thought the pacing was really good and the development of the characters' relationship felt natural.

CONNECTED BOOKS: WAIT FOR ME is the third book in The Outback Bachelor Ball series. The three books are interconnected and occur in the same time period. They can be read as separate stories but are best together. Readers of this book should read the epilogue of the second book WOO ME.

STAR RATING: I give this book 4.25 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great novella 25 October 2015

Will definitely read more of this author, I love Karina Bliss, so got this trilogy, and am pleased to find another author to read. This novella had good character development for a short story and was a sweet read. I'm normally a bit wary of novellas as they can seem rushed, but this was the right length.
4.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly enjoyable quick read 5 February 2016

I love Sarah Mayberry's books. Properly formed characters, a story that makes sense (I do dislike a story where the characters are just dummies being moved around the shop for no good reason) and lots of emotion. Oh and scrumptious heroes. It's a short book and I ripped through it all too fast, but thoroughly enjoyed.
