1.)There are 2 speed settings, the low speed setting did not work at all. This is the one I would be most likely to use.
2.) The inside barrel (where it is silver) lights up orange which I assume to be the 'iconic function'. When I turned the hair dryer off (and I only had it on for 10 seconds before discovering problem (1)) I put the hairdryer down and went to repackage it for return. Picked it up and nearly burned my fingers on the silver barrel, which continued to become hotter and hotter even though there was no power. I had to put it on a non-inflammable surface and let it cool down. When it was cool enough to re-package, I noticed that all the silver on the bottom side of the barrel had shrivelled with the heat.
Perhaps I had a one-off defective product...but it inspired a horror in me of potential fire risk...it says nothing in the instruction leaflet about the barrel becoming too hot to touch and this is an issue that would make me nervous and want to warn others.
I like the easily changeable heat strength (3 settings) and also power (I-II-III). It's very easy to use and just a basic hairdryer.
I am only posting the review now as the last couple of uses it has made an odd sound in the motor so I figured it was going it was going to die soon (surely enough it just clapped out gradually after burning up a bit inside) - I think for the price, lasting five years is relatively decent. Overall it's an average hairdryer.
Packaging - the item was well package, no damage to box and was as described.
The dryer pros - is not a heavy dryer and is ideal for someone like me who has fibromyalgia and can find holding things difficult. I was pleased to note that the dryer did not become too hot on the barrel as previous hair dryers I have owned and i am happy to put it away straight after use without having to cool it down .
The dryer cons - the downside to this dryer is the switches could have been placed better. There are two switches placed on the handle, one is for 3 heat controls, one is a speed control and there is also a button for cold blast. As you are using the dryer it is all to easy to switch the switches by mistake.
The dryer can get very hot towards the scalp. If you have a sensitive scalp I'd advice to use a lower setting.
Having curly hair I have tried number of hairdryers with diffusers over the years across all price ranges.
I am onto my second hairdryer of this type, the heating element failed in the first one after 3 years.
It drys my hair quickly and the medium heat and medium speed settings ensure my curls are revived with no frizz.
I will not hesitate to replace with the same product when this one eventually gives up the ghost.
I like the size and the style of this dryer. The concentrator nozzle isn't as slim as I expected but it seems to work well enough. The diffuser (not to be used at high temperatures) is quite big and effective. I like how the attachments click onto the dryer as well, rather than just slip onto the end (the concentrator for my last dryer was prone to falling off).
The highest heat setting is far too hot for me, but the middle one is really comfortable. The cool shot isn't actually that cool and you have to keep your finger on the button to keep it working.
Overall, a good dryer for the money.
I can't say that I have noticed any difference between my old braun which blew up and this one which supposedly makes your hair less frizzy through the ionic particles that it produces.
The cord is nice and long. I have not used the diffuser attachement.
Overall I am happy with it as a replacement for my old one which died from old age.
Update: Sept 2013 This is now overheating and cutting out within a minute of using. The fan has also become very noisy. As it is all moulded and there are no screws it is impossible to identify the fault and possibly correct it
The build quality is much better than a similarly priced Babyliss device I had previously, as well as being quieter, having a cold air boost function, and a much longer cord. It also doesn't get too hot to touch which is reassurance.
The only slight negative I have is that I find it a little bit too easy to accidentally change the settings as the switches are a bit sensitive.
Apart from that, I am very pleased with this purchase and would happily recommend it.
