Product Description

THE THIRD NOVEL IN THE BESTSELLING OUTLANDER SERIES.

Jamie Fraser is lying on the battlefield of Culloden, where he rises wounded, to face execution or imprisonment. Either prospect pales beside the pain of loss - his wife is gone. Forever.

But sometimes forever is shorter than one thinks. In 1746, Claire Fraser made a perilous journey through time, leaving her young husband to die at Culloden, in order to protect their unborn child. In 1968, Claire has just been struck through the heart, discovering that Jamie Fraser didn’t die in battle.

But where is Jamie now? With the help of her grown daughter, Claire sets out to find the man who was her life - and might be once again.

This book needs a damned good edit and an editor who can say, "NO. Just no. The heroine CANNOT be kidnapped, quell a typhoid epidemic, jump ship AND be ship wrecked and then be set upon by pirates, all in the space of 50 pages." "And if you even think about floating that serial killing priest nonsense to me again.... I swear....one of us is fired". Poor editor. Seems she lost both the the battle and the war.

It's clear from the deteriorating quality of the successive books that the editor won Round (Book) 1 and has been losing ground ever since. The clear, relentless and absurd unlikeliness of their plots and their tendency to ramble between the sex bits indicates that the writer is winning and the editor is on a beach somewhere in the Caribbean, dreamily contemplating her writer's next outrage against good, clear writing......whilst Jamie sucks languidly on her toes.

Again, this is a very gripping and well written novel. The characters are still very strong and the scenery is richly painted, though I was disappointed to be leaving Scotland behind. We are constantly left with a 'what happens next' expectation which holds this series together so well. Jamis and Claire are still the central characters, but we are introduced to more characters drifting in and out of the story line, some important and will appear again, some we can forget. The narrative is still tight and the tension is well executed, if not a little obviously convenient at times.
A great read and I went straight to the next bookin the series.

After having thoroughly enjoyed the first book in the series and then watching season 1 and 2 of the TV series I couldn't wait for season 3. The result was the purchase of this, the third book in the series. I found it so verbose and without direction that I did what I rarely do when reading and that is skip passages. I ploughed laboriously through the last 1/4 and am pleased it is behind me. It is such a pity as I was totally immersed in the first two and would have happily kept reading if it had carried on in the same tone and skill level. I won't be pursuing any further issues.

I enjoyed this continuing story of Jamie and Claire but felt that this book could have benefited from a good edit. Too much unnecessary waffling. I found evidence of this in Book 2 of the series but it really became a distraction in Outlander 3. I found myself flicking through vast sections and really didn't miss much by doing so. It verges on becoming a pedestrian historical romance but is saved by the strength of the realtionship between Jamie and Claire. "Less is more"

Just read it, anything I could say would be spoilers, I wouldnt do that as I have read some reviews and found out stuff I would rather not have found out until I read it myself.... Diana Gabaldon is a brilliant writer, and the story continues seamlessly in this book as in the previous ones

Captivating, intriguing and full of suspense. Can't get enough of it. Now I want Season 4.
There's no doubt Diana Gabaldon is very talented writer and she knows her subjects and material well.
Very recommendable! Happy customer!

I am one committed Outlander nut bag so enjoyed this book and cannot wait to get into the next one. Although finding some passages extraneous, the 'gasp' moments (and there are a few good ones), certainly outweighed the predictable moments.

I just love the way that Diana writes the story but there is always something more coming around the corner so to speak. I just love her books.; thankyou very much, not so sure about the movies, I hate that they change it so much from the book you start watching it and expect this or that but it doesn't happen like you remember it. a bit disappointing.
