The only reason I would recommend this book would be as a lesson in how not to write a textbook. A survey class on geography needs to cover a lot of ground and it's a difficult task. This book did cover a lot of ground, but failed to do so in a coherent or even inspiring way. If anything, it will dissuade anyone from wanting to further explore a fascinating topic.
Regardless, if you're looking at this book, you likely require it for a class. If that's the case, I recommend the hardcopy. Although the Kindle version's search ability was a huge boon and renting it saved some money (no one will want to keep this book), the pages are not formatted well for the screen and were essentially indecipherable on a tablet (or phone). If you're planning on using a desktop, where you can see a full page without scrolling, it might be worthwhile. If not, and you can't convince the professor to change textbooks, pick up a beat-up used version so you can actually read the text without constantly fighting the urge to smash your computer.
