not only for developers moving to vb.net but also for those having to stick to vb6 for whatever reason. there are a number of typos which sometimes make the reading less easy, hence the missing star. there are a number of plugs for the "big" book but they are forgivable.

If you want to know about serial communications this is the book for you. The CD alone has so much material that after months I'm still finding useful tools in it.
It really helps understand the constraints that you have to live with when you use Visual Basic to develop serial communication applications. It is full of troubleshooting techniques and warns you about common pitfalls.

Very helpful. The 'why' explanations revealed a deeper understanding than most authors. I got lost in the multi-threading example, though.

Thank you Richard Grier!
I am a VB2010 newbie (3 weeks). I had to talk to an NCD relay board with a USB virtual serial port using VB. The NCD website had an example of writing to their relay board, but, I needed to readback the status, etc... Using the information in this tutorial I was successfully able to read the status of this relay board. I also learned many other things about reading and writing serial ports using VB.NET.
I should probably buy the hardcover book also, but, for now, I could not be any more satisfied. Thank you again Richard Grier
