Product Description

A beacon of light...

Undercover DEA agent Alex Brennan doesn’t believe in the paranormal, despite the exhausting nightmares that reveal things he shouldn’t know. When sleep deprivation causes him to make a horrible mistake on the job, he is driven to find answers. Dreams guide him to a lighthouse in Three Churches, Maine, where he finds an inexplicable and comforting familiarity in the arms of the lighthouse’s beautiful keeper, Pru Maddox.

A whisper of memory…

Deadly misfortune has long plagued Pru’s family, the result of a curse “The Green Lady” placed on the lighthouse. Skeptical, Alex searches for less ghostly explanations, though he can’t deny that the town has had more than its fair share of disappearances, suicides, and accidents. As their passion simmers, Alex digs deeper, and his dreams turn violent, frightening, and very real.

A vision of darkness...

To keep Pru safe, Alex must embrace his abilities and unravel the lighthouse’s mystery. Except someone—or something—wants the past to stay buried...and will do anything to keep it that way.

Character Introductions-
Alex Brennan had just endured two years undercover for the DEA and now has been ordered some indefinite downtime. He needs this time to reacquaint himself with, well... himself and find his direction again. In doing so, he'd planned to head out West to visit a friend, but found himself going North into Maine. Stopping to eat at a diner, he encounters Pru. She sparks his interest with an intensity he's never felt before.
Waitressing at her grandmother's diner in Three Churches, Maine, Pru Maddox sees a lot of road-weary travelers and hears a lot of gossip from the locals. She's been divorced for six months, practically runs the diner when her grandmother's off on an adventure, and she most recently purchased the lighthouse, it's outbuildings and the property around it with the dream of turning it into a Bed and Breakfast - if only The Green Lady would cooperate.

~ Debut book in Tonya Burrows's NEW series! Paranormal Romance Genre! ~
From the moment Alex and Pru meet, they feel an intense draw toward one another but she's recently divorced and guy shy. He's not in the greatest position at the moment either, in part due to an on-the-job incident. Alex "knows" when things are about to get ugly; he "feels it", but chalks it up to gut-instinct or good intuition. He does not believe in any of the "woo-woo" that his squadron or his institutionalized brother does. He's extremely stubborn and cynical whereas Pru is still very naive and trusting, even after a traumatic experience caused a chain of events that eventually tore her world apart. The secondary characters are solid and support the story well, good and bad. This series promises to be edgier and darker than Ms. Burrows's other two series, but still holds enough HEAT to burn up the pages. The flow is smooth, the dynamics are present and plentiful, the conflicts are layered and interwoven. How do I approach the predictability without spoilers? Before the twenty percent mark, I thought I figured out the "woo-woo" of the relationship, but was only partially right. The same goes for the ship and crew. There were a few plot points that were not fully addressed, but they were not key points. Alex and Pru receive a solid ending, but the Epilogue provides a healthy lead-in to the next potential book.

4.0 out of 5 stars This was a fantastic read, another winner fromTonya Burrows. 2 December 2014
By Rachel Hamilton - Published on Amazon.com

Tonya Burrows delivers the perfect mix of romance, paranormal, suspense and intrigue all wrapped up in a book that will keep you glued to the pages till you finish and manage to finally take a deep breath.

I loved this book. Just when you thought you have it worked it, the story takes you in a different direction and sucks you in further. Plus the last quarter of the book…….amazing. Hold on for the ride.

The main characters in Pru and Alex were fantastic. I loved Pru’s resilience and Alex was more than a little dreamy. Yes he has a secret, a big one but the way he reacts to Pruand her town, swoom.

When undercover agent Alex is drawn to a small Maine town for some reason little did he know how much it would change his life? Alex has always had a six sense or premonitions, he just chooses to ignore it. He doesn’t believe in the paranormal….at all. But something, an inner voice or feeling has made a road trip to get away from his undercover life more interesting.

An endless red light changes everything. It leads to pie, a mystery and Alex meeting Pru who runs the diner where the best pie is being served.

Pru, who moved back to her home town when her ugly divorce went through and after a horrible robbery gone wrong and now is the proud owner of the towns lighthouse that everyone says is haunted. She can live with a ghost, it just all the accidents that happen around the light house that are starting to get to her.

The sparks immediately fly between these two and the town notices. Of course it does, it’s a small town that thrives on gossip. When Alex ends up staying at the lighthouse with Pru, strange things start to happen more frequently. Especially when Alex and Pru get a little too close.

As things get more complicated in the once quiet little town and secrets start to unravel, Alex and Pru grow closer and closer. With help from an old buddy called in to help both Alex and Pru and another newcomer to the town looking for long buried answers, the truth starts to come out and makes a believer out of Alex just in time for the s*** to really hit the fan.

Long buried resentments come to the surface in breath taking manner and as we hurtle towards the end of the lies and deceit that has long plagued the light house can the new believer Alex save Pru or has his change of heart come too late? Will he save the woman he loves and himself in the process or will the Green Lady win once and for all?

Add in secondary characters in Pru friends and Alex’s former team members, who I for one am hoping get their own books, Nick especially! You hear me Tonya???

This is the first in what this reader is hoping will be a series. It’s already gone straight to my keeper shelf. I will read anything this author writes and she didn’t disappoint with this book. Even if you aren’t into paranormal give this book a try. It’s absolutely worth it.
4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting concept. Too much going on. 21 January 2015

3.5

First of all, I gotta praise Tonya Burrows' writing. There is something about it that as soon as I start reading, I cannot stop. I need to go on because she has the ability to wrap me up in the world she's presenting.

The plot to this new series immediately caught me. As soon as I knew there'd be military men with psychic abilities I was sold. I'm a sucker for stories that include men that were in the army, navy, etc. etc. and I'm a sucker for stories with people that have powers. All I've read about the former included women (and sometimes a man) so I was really looking forward to get into this new world where many men have powers.

Did it work?

Absolutely. The concept is interesting and refreshing. I got sucked in the world and now that I've finished reading I cannot wait to read the rest of the books. I mean, that epilogue, what in the world just happened?!

BUT…

I felt that before the ending, there was a lot going on. Too many subplots. Sometimes I found it hard to remember who was who or what needed to be resolved. It frustrated me and you have no idea how relieved I was when they finally started wrapping up because I wanted the whole focus on the main plot with Alex and Pru.

And speaking about Alex and Pru, I really liked them even though both, especially him, would frustrate me from time to time. I do wish though I could've seen more of their romance because they were adorable and sexy and adorable and sexy and… you get the idea. (view spoiler)

Also, I loved the friendship between the D.I.E squadron. There wasn't much but the little I saw made me love them. I felt the sense of unity and brotherhood. It made fall in love with this new world even more.

*OVERALL:

'Vision of Darkness' is a great beginning to a series that promises to blow my mind if I continue reading it (which I will). The mystery will keep you glued to the page/screen and you won't want to stop until you have the answers.

I've formed an attachment to this new set of characters and world, and I cannot wait to read the following books. I cannot wait to get to know more of the squadron, see more of Alex and Pru, and of course, see the baddies DIAF.
4.0 out of 5 stars The battle of love and evil! 3 December 2014
By Pat Fordyce - Published on Amazon.com

This was a trip to Three Churches, Maine where strange things occur, and people are disappearing and at times it's downright terrifying. On the surface it seems like an ordinary small town, but it has secrets.

Pru Maddox has returned to Three Churches after a near death experience and leaving her cheating husband. Pru has taken it upon herself to rejuvenate the local lighthouse and home to make into a B & B. It has a reputation for being haunted, but so far it's been noises, footsteps and scaring Pru's dog Triton. She grew up in Three Churches so it's a coming home experience for her. Her Grandma Mae is her only living relative and where she is so is Pru.

Alex Brennan is a DEA operative on "vacation." He's pretty sure he's not going back. He was a sniper for Special Ops in the military with a ruined knee and lots of nightmares to show for it. He got in his car in Boston and wound his way through New England till he was tired and hungry and in Three Churches. In the local diner he meets Pru, lust and protective feelings take over. His military buds tell him he has premonitions, all he know is his gut feelings are hardly ever wrong.

There are a great many characters involved in this story, all with their own little quirks. Alex's military buddies are still looking out for him, some alive and some dead. Several times Alex is asked whether he believes in ghosts, he always answers no. But forces are out to change his mind. This is the first paranormal novel I've read by Ms. Burrows and I hope the next comes out soon. There is not a cliffhanger ending per se, but a compelling reason to read the next! Paranormal, romance and suspense make this a fascinating read.
5.0 out of 5 stars Not your typical Paranormal book 3 December 2014

I really enjoyed this book. It was an interesting take on the Psychic adventure books that are dominating the market. Alex Brennan is a DEA agent, who is having, shall we say, episodes of foresight. However, he does not buy into all that psychic hooey. On a leave of absence from his job, he starts to wander. Something brings him here, to Maine, to this small town and its lighthouse.

Pru Maddox is the proud owner of said lighthouse. The lighthouse is haunted, Pru believes, by the Green Lady. She was the wife of a former owner of the lighthouse. Pru has seen her, and she does things around the lighthouse.

Alex does not believe in ghosts, woo-hoo stuff, or paranormal stuff. But, when in a convoluted series of events, he stays at the lighthouse, he starts to experience the ghostly paranormal stuff himself.

Detection, Infiltration, and Eradication ( D.I.E) squadron members all have some type of paranormal abilities. And all of his squadron mates have embraced their abilities except for Alex. Will he finally embrace his? But there are people out there who want to see Alex and his squadron dead, and only because they possess these abilities.

This book starts off kind of slow, but comes to a very satisfying conclusion where Alex and Pru are concerned. But there are a lot of unanswered questions regarding the rest of the squad. The book sets up the premise of the series very well, and the glimpses we see of the other characters are truly intriguing. I hope to see more of this series in the future...
