Managing teams of people who live in different cities or even countries requires a new set of skills for managers. Korrine Jones’ concise and helpful guide to the world of leading virtual teams takes the terror out of the task and could help you avoid mistakes you didn’t even know you were making. I highly recommend Virtual Team Reality - The Secrets to Leading Successful Virtual Teams and Remote Workers from this experienced guide to the world of virtual work.

At about 140 pages, I found this to be a compact and very handy book that illustrates that traditional leadership and management techniques are no longer fit for purpose for virtual teams. The book contains a series of real life case studies to highlight the challenges and support the author's recommended solutions. The author articulates the multi-dimensional challenges of managing virtual teams and provides solutions on areas like team leadership, intra team collaboration and managing individual performance from a distance. I particularly like the adoption of the Agile software development methodology and techniques to enhance team collaboration and innovation. Overall, this is neat, paper-based toolkit for anyone who is either a member of or a leader of a geographically dispersed team.

What a great book! I was so surprised to find out that more than 80% of people work remotely some of the time. This is a very timely guide and chock full of practical tips and checklists to help make it less mystifying to lead a team of remote staff. The case studies were interesting and informative. Loved the 'virtual coffee break' idea from one of the case studies. Anyone who leads a virtual team would find value from this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars This book provides excellent practical advice on how to empower remote teams 28 August 2015
By Tracy Stanley - Published on Amazon.com

Teams come in many forms with technology making virtual teams more the norm than the exception. This book provides excellent practical advice on how to empower remote teams, virtual tams, teams in different time zones and teams with different cultural socialisations to deliver in a cohesive way.

The distilled wisdom and best practice insights in the book make it a good resource for any manager with virtual teams reporting to them. I believe the book’s promise on insights is consistent with its tag line: the secrets to leading successful virtual teams and remote workers.
