You may need to ease into minimal shoe living if you are used to more foot support (based on what I’ve heard) but if barefoot is your preference, this will be your go-to shoe.

I am a size 8 in most every shoe. I tried VI-5 in 40/8 and they were ridiculously large. Then I tried the 39/7 - they almost worked but there was bagging at the heel and, as my previous Vibrams have stretched somewhat with use, I thought they might too and the heel would then slip off and the shoes would be non functional. So both those pairs are being returned.
I ordered the 38 (which states it's for a 5-7 US size). They fit this size 8 foot very comfortably. The only hesitation I have is that the toes are not as long as on the 39s so you can see the base of my toes in the VIs. I'm confident they will stretch a little and that won't be a distraction. My toes feels comfortable and the shoes feels great for walking.
Just in case it helps with your sizing - my longest foot measures 9.25 inches
The shoes that worked for me were .5" longer than my foot.
These are the measurements for the VI-5s I was sent
VI-5 38 measures toe to heel just over 9.75"
VI-5 39 measures 10"
VI-5 40 measures just over 10.25"
For others with long second toes... the toes next to my big toe are about 1/2" longer than my big toe but that has never been a problem with Vibrans (I've had a few pairs of the running shoes and am usually a 39 or 40 in them).
I'm really pleased to have a somewhat neutral color in the beige with purple lines as I don't love my feet standing out which they do with the bright colors on most Vibrams and when people notice the toes they feel it's necessary to pass comment which makes me uncomfortable. I hope Vibram starts to make more neutrals.
From experience I have personally seen and felt the way the foot gets stronger and alignment and knee issues can recover with the use of Vibrams (and other bare foot running shoes). I ended up with my first Vibrams many years ago trying to resolve some longstanding issues and they worked better than the physical therapy sessions I had gone to for the same reason.
Four stars because the VI-5s are really cute and comfortable. They lost one star because shoe makers should be able to get their sizing consistent.
Thanks to Amazon for their great delivery and return policy.
I love these shoes, though. They're just beautiful and perfect for more formal events, but I'm sure they'll still be great for walking in. And to the people who hate on the straps, they actually make a difference in keeping the shoes on. With my pair being too big, I know that they'd be falling off my feet without the straps. Even though they seem really thin and that they might break the first day you wear them, the straps are quite durable as far as I can tell, unless you go after them with scissors. What would have been nice is a little how-to guide for securing the straps. It took me quite a while to figure out how they worked.
