Product Description

Six years ago, Grey Malteer was attacked by creatures he thought couldn’t possibly exist. They repeated a word, calling him a name he’d never heard before…Venator. Since then, his life has been a hellhole of secrecy—hiding old pain alongside strange new abilities.

Rune Jenkins has an itch, as she calls it, but it’s more than that. It’s an anger that builds up like the inside of a boiler whenever she’s around anything remotely supernatural. The pressure is growing steadily worse and she can’t understand why. All she knows is—her control is slipping.

By order of an unknown council Grey and Rune are pulled through a portal in the St. Louis arch, landing them in an alternate dimension where creatures of myth and legend exist. A realm that calls them, Venators.

Made up of centuries old fae, vampires, werewolves, elves and succubi the council’s corrupt nature becomes obvious as they seek to wield the newly returned Venators as weapons. Wedged in an impossible position, Grey and Rune must decide their fate—do they go against the council’s wishes and help the innocents of this unforgiving land, or face the possibility of execution by the council.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast paced, suspenseful and sometimes frightening! Great twist on fantasy! Loved it! 21 September 2016

Venators is going down as my favorite Devri Walls novel so far! When I talked to Devri last fall, she said her next book would have a little bit of everything in it... and she wasn't kidding! Vampires, dangerous werewolves (not like the kind I see in so many other novels lately), fairies, goblins, dragons.... you name it, it's there! But, it's not "too much" either. Devri creates the world in a way that it all fits together, so it's not just a pile of mish-mash thrown together hoping to reach a variety of readers. It really does work well together, and the world feels real to me. It's intriguing, intimidating and honestly a little frightening!

Venators is well written, was easy to get pulled into (and hard to put down!), and full of twists and mystery. It sets the stage nicely for the series and makes me want more right away. The story is a fast paced ride full of adventure, mystery, and danger. The whole story takes place over a short span of time, but the characters personalities shine enough that you can "see" them, quirks and all, by the end of the story. It's easy to like Rune and Grey when they are the stars of the story, but Tate, Verida and Beltrain helped bring the story to life in their own way, too. Actually, I think Beltran was my favorite character... he's a prank-loving trouble-maker who thinks rules don't apply to him. He's also a shapeshifter, with a touch of softness somewhere deep within him. Enough to help strangers, and care... really care. I look forward to seeing him develop in the series. There are secrets with Tate and Verida's lives that I think will come out later in the story, too, and add depth to who they are. The mystery of those two kept drawing me in, begging me to pay closer attention, just in case I could pick up on more of them.

The story moved very fast, and there were scenes that definitely had my heart pumping. It was not your traditional girl-runs-into-danger-boy-goes-to-save-her and everything ends light and happy. There is manipulation, deep wounds that need cleaned out to heal, and bartering that may cost lives. I probably sound like nerd-fan girl but I can't wait for book two already. Thanks for taking me on another great journey, Devri! I love your style!
5.0 out of 5 stars Memorable characters, non stop action. Can't wait for the next book! 15 January 2017

This story of a parallel world is full of monsters, creatures and unique characters. Even though Venators is a fast paced action fantasy, I never got lost or confused with the story. The author does a great job of developing all the characters and describing everything in a way that ignites your imagination throughout.
I do not typically pick books from this genre. I'm glad I read this story because it was very entertaining and really opened my eyes to other possibilities when choosing a book in the future. I can't wait to continue on with the sequel!

Once again, Devri has done it again. What a fun, fast paced and exciting read!!! I just love Devri's writing style it's so creative and imaginative and the way she weaves her stories through her characters is just phenomenal! This is such a unique take on the paranormal/fantasy genre. I really loved Grey and Beltran's characters. Rune it took me a while to like because she started out as a weak and whiny character and didn't know how to really handle certain situations without freaking out. But towards the end, she's started shedding that weak character and she's morphing into something that's going to be a force to be reckoned with and I can't wait to see how she develops. Grey.
How can I describe how amazing he is? Even though this world is new and crazy, he handles it with a calmly matter and he's kind and compassionate and very handsome too. And he's already developing into a strong character and everything he does just makes him more beautiful and incredible. Then there's Beltran. I have to knock down Grey on my favorite character in this book just a little bit. Because Beltran has taken that spot the minute he was introduced. He's witty and funny and also really sweet. He's like Damon Salvatore and Klaus Mikaelson, minus the serial killer persona- he acts sarcastic and reckless but he is really smart and cares for so much more then he lets on and I am staking my claim. Cause just as he's falling for Rune, I'm falling for him. I love the multiple views this story is told from not just from the main two but from of the other characters so we can understand them and the story more. I highly recommend this book to anyone. This was so much fun and I'm starving for more!!
5.0 out of 5 stars A New Favorite 30 October 2016

Attention readers! We have a new favorite on the block! Venators is a fun, modern-day fantasy readers of all ages can enjoy.  The plot is unique,  the characters are realtistic, and the book is a fun read. The world building is highly imaginative and I received a fun, "goes bump in the night" vibe as soon as I jumped into it. The author did an amazing job capturing the male protagonist's essence when dealing with the aftermath of dark trauma. So many elements toward the end of the story threw me for a loop. Not knowing what to expect is refreshing in the Indie Author Realm. I'm ready for more and cannot wait to introduce this new series to my children.

Venators brings to life all the childhood stories that made us afraid of the dark.

Two worlds side by side our world were fairy tales are just that. And the other world where fairy tales came from.

Gray and Rune come face to face with the reality that fairy tales are a history of a world they never knew was a reality.

If you are looking for strong Characters that you can relate to with a supernatural twist, then this is the book to start with and count the days for the next in the line of books.
