I've been a huge fan of Eden's since the first Reckless Beat book and I can honestly say that this new series is just as good, if not better, than her first. Instead of sexy, brooding rockstars, we have a trio of best friends operating their own restaurant and bar with a secret sex club, The Vault of Sin, open to a few select customers.
In book #1: 'Shot of Sin' we meet Leo, one of the owners of the Sin business with a kink for voyuerism and exhibitionism. With a history of women disapproving his interests and lifestyle, he prefers to engage in the activities in his club rather than commit to another doomed relationship. That includes refusing the advances of his very tempting employee, Shay. In all the years she has worked at Sin, he has never revealed the existence of The Vault, choosing instead to keep her as a friend rather than risk her rejection when she learns his secret. Shay has been infatuated with Leo since the day she started working at Sin. Their flirty banter and rapport kept the torch burning, even after a steamy encounter with him in the storeroom left her feeling confused and rejected. However, she refuses to give up on him. When a staffing situation leads her to discovering the Vault and all its depravity, Shay must decide whether she is capable of being the woman needed to satisfy Leo. With not just her heart on the line, Shay is risking both her ego and job as she commits to giving her relationship with Leo a shot. This book really has it all when you think of sex club romance. A sexy, alpha hero, a sassy, strong willed heroine, smoking hot sex, a mountain of angst and enough chemistry to launch a rocket. From start to finish, the book was excellently written, the characters loveable and full of heat.
In book #2 TJ and Cassie had the perfect marriage. Their love could not be rivalled, their chemistry couldn't be topped, and their sexuality couldn't be sated. That was until a bad experience in a sex club lead to TJ carrying a load of guilt so heavy that he believed the only way to protect his wife from future harm was to break her heart and leave. Never understanding the reasons why he left her, Cassie is determined to prove to her husband that their love is still strong before his motion for a divorce is passed. Just twenty- eight days to remind him of their bond, or she loses him forever.
The angst in this book is paramount. The pain TJ feels over leaving the woman he still loves with every fibre of his being makes your heart hurt. However, after learning the other reasons for his decision, you can't help but be angry over his stubbornness. But its Cassie's pain, confusion and heartbreak that really pull at your heart strings. I spent the whole book cheering her on as she refuses to give up. She's one of those characters that truly deserves a HEA. Oh, and did I mention the sex was HOT?? Oh my, I swear my glasses fogged up at multiple points. Good god, that Eden sure does have a wild imagination. And that scene in the epilogue..... *phew** Overall, Union of Sin was an excellent second instalment of The Vault series. It was extremely well-written, realistic and evoked so much emotion. Three key elements to a truly successful novel.
Book #3 gives us Brute and Pamela. Widow and sexually frustrated Pamela/Ella has been a member at The Vault for several years and has yet to find satisfaction from any members. Her desires are specific thanks to her recently deceased husband. However, upon meeting Brute, she finds her orgasm within minutes. The only issue is that he has no interest in a repeat performance and after one humiliating rejection in front of the entire Vault, Pamela chooses to cancel her membership and settle for a life bereft of satisfaction. Brute/Bryan, 1/3 owner of the Sin business is bot known for his people skills. He's rough, unfiltered and doesn't care who he offends, hence the nickname. However, the attitude appears to be a babe magnet and he finds himself constantly propositioned by the ladies of The Vault, regardless of his well known one-and-done rule. One night at the Vault, he runs into Ella, the woman he has had on his mind since their encounter in the change rooms a few weeks prior. But Brute has had enough of women not taking no for an answer and instead humiliates her in front of the entire club, leading to a lot of anger from his customers and business partners, whom demand he make amends with Pamela. He sets out on a mission for forgiveness but the more time they spend with each other, the more they grow attached. But he doesn't do relationships and she isn't willing to hand her heart over to another man who won't give his in return. This book offers so much more than what you would expect from a sex club romance. Of course there was scorching hot sex and lots of kinky depravity but its the opposites- attract relationship between Bryan and Pamela that has you hooked. There was more angst, frustration and drama in the book than an average high school. But then there was love and it was the hope that these two would find their HEA that kept you going.
Overall, The Vault series is beyond excellent. We have three alpha males whom could not be more different, each with their own unique journey to happiness. I'm a touch heartbroken that the series is finished but the ending was perfect. Thank you so much, Eden! Once again you have produced an outstanding series that had me hooked from page one :) x
