Normal wasn’t a path ever set for Cereus.

Have you ever read a book and your thinking to yourself 'I can't like this book' or 'what's wrong with me to actually like this' well this was me all throughout Vacant. It was the perfect story to end the most epic series I've read! Although I could keep reading these characters throughout there lif. The journey cereus and Ryan went on was amazing! I'm glad they ended up finding their way back to each other because reading their feelings and what was going on in both minds, you could see how much Ryan impacted Cereus and how much she needed him. I love Cereus! I love how wicked she was and how much alike she is to Ryan because although Ryan did was horrible stuff I couldn't help but feel for him and enjoy the ride he took us on and how much he has grown towards Blake and Mel

I am a massive fan of Kers and of this series and Vacant did not let me down. We meet back up with Ryan, who's sneakily keeping an eye on Cereus. Cereus is now at college and it's becoming abundantly clear that she doesn't fit in. Pulling away from her family, she starts to realise she's more like her uncle than she thought. I love the relationship between Ryan and Cereus. The constant keeping you guessing what's going to happen with them really pulled me in. Ryan especially absolutely fascinates me, I've said before his character reminds me of an onion, the guy has so many layers to his character and psyche i just need to delve deeper. I could see some changes to Ryan, he doesn't feel emotions/feelings but there's definitely something there when it comes to Cereus. Really need at least one more book about Ryan, i need to really get inside his head and i need to know how things turn out for Cereus and the rest of her family. Another brilliant book by this author.

5 STARS!!! Holy Hell for the Love of RYAN!!!
Vacant an Empathy series novella is *Riveting & Chilling (in a good way)* and just as Raw Dark and Intense like the rest of the Empathy series. Vacant continues where Desolate ended and just when you thought things were settled... New twists and WTF moments pop up that just blow your mind. Have you ever read something and think to yourself “I shouldn't like this”, “there has to be something wrong with me because I LOVE what I am reading. That is the best way for me to describe how I felt reading Vacant. I loved it! I honestly loved EVERY SINGLE TWISTED ASPECT of this story, and Ryan who may be a complex character but you can't help but just feel for him! Ker Dukey knows how to write original stories that will leave you speechless and amazed!

4.0 out of 5 stars still wanting more! 31 March 2015
By DragonflyReads - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Ker Dukey was the author that really gave me a love for dark reads. Her amazing words for Ryan in Empathy will always stay with me. I could never imagine how they were thought up but they were beautifully brilliant. Desolate was the same in my reaction. With that being said, I was left wanting a lot more from Vacant.

We get both Ryan and Cereus' POV in this novella. Ryan is convinced that Cereus (his niece) is his soul mate; not in a sexual way, but in mind and spirit. Two dark souls that were meant to be together, to feed off of eachothers depravity. Ryan was believed to be killed in Desolate but he lived through the fire to meet his half brother and his wife. That's a whole other side to his crazy mind.

“Soul mates are not supposed to tame eachother, they’re meant to set you free to run wild in your nature, to be who you are together.”

Cereus is trying to live through her first year in college. Her peers don't like her. She's closed-off and has only one friend, Randal. Cereus finds herself thinking darker and darker because of her distain for Hannah, the school "mean girl" and finally gets her revenge in the only way she knows how, seducing Hannah's boyfriend.

“I know a monster lives within him but the man who protected me, the man who I spent time with lives inside him also.”

After s*** goes down at the college with Hannah's disappearance, Ryan finds himself there and trying to take Cereus away from it all. They need to be together to live their life with eachother and have no one to tell them what they want is wrong.

I finished this novella wanting more. I feel that we could have greatly benefited from a novel from Ker. More on Cereus' new "friends" and even Blake and Melody since they played a larger part in Desolate. Ker is still one of my top "one click" authors, her dark imagination knows no bounds.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece 30 March 2015

When I read book one of this series Empathy and I decided that Ryan was going to be a problem here but that has all changed after reading Desolate. Now we have come to the end of this brilliant series with Vacant and I have to say....I have grown to love Ryan.

Why you may ask, well first off if you haven't read either Empathy or Desolate and in that order you may not understand this review and how the characters have grown and moved along throughout the years.

We all know that Blake and Melody have now move along after assuming that Ryan, Blake's brother has died in the fire. Only Cereus their daughter knows in her heart that her soul mate uncle Ryan is still lurking somewhere nearby. Now Cereus has entered college and still cannot except the fact that Ryan died for in her heart and soul she knows that he at some point come for her.

I do want to make this clear that this is not a story about incest with Ryan and Cereus it is a relationship of the minds of two souls that connected from the being. Until Ryan met Cereus he had not one drop of Empathy in his body and it took Cereus to finally find it's way into Ryan's soul. Cereus became his everything giving the meaning of caring that never shed one once in his blood, heart or mind.

The connection between Ryan and Cereus is something that I cannot explain to the readers for only you will understand this and make your own evaluation of their relationship. Ryan now has a reason to live and fight for someone that he truly cares about. I can only say that yes there is a twist here and of course maybe a little murder...but I'm not saying who and by whom!

How Ker wrote this story is one of amazement it truly blew me away from the first book and even to the end of this one. Unfortunately the story has now come to the end and I will absolutely miss series. You just crave and crave more of this sage and now the cravings will be gone.

But not to worry because I am sure just around the corner Kerry got another one brewing for her readers very shortly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ker is my Dark Queen, my outlet to all of my dark and twisted cravings... 31 March 2015

You know what's crazy? I HATE novellas, can't stand them. They are too short and most of the time feel like they were rushed or too much going on at once, trying to compact it all into this tiny book...

Well this is NOT your typical novella. This is...words fail's can I explain this... Getting everything you've ever hoped for sat right onto your lap. You finish it and you are in awe of Ker's ability to make you question your sense of right and wrong.(and I think I've said just that in my reviews of her books before)Or how she makes horrible things seem like its the most normal thing in the world, and MAKE you ok with that. She takes control of you while you are reading her books, but its ok because you don't want to be let go. You want to stay inside of her twisted mind because its awesome! She is your Dark Queen, she is your outlet to your dark and twisted cravings. ALL in this tiny book, that holds more punch than most full length novels. Yeah, you think I'm it.

Obviously you need to read Empathy and Desolate first for it to make any sense, but that's ok because they were amazing reads too. I don't want to give one single thing away. I want you to feel like I did after you read it. AMAZED! *zips lips* READ IT! You will not regret it!

Perfection! The queen of twists is at it again!

Vacant is the perfect ending to one of the best twistedly dark series of 2015

You must read Empathy & Desolate first and if you haven't yet, well...I'm a little sad for you! They are a must! You will discover why everyone is buzzing about the amazing talent that author Ker Dukey displays in each and every book.

Vacant catches us up on how Cereus is doing in college. After meeting, then losing the one thing that started to make sense in her life. Cereus's world hasn't been the same...
Her soul is craving something... Someone
She's present, but Vacant ...

Ryan has a few new toys ... (I'll just leave that there *insert wicked laugh)

This 5 star conclusion will leave you craving more from the wicked wicked mind of Ker Dukey

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like dark reads, then this book is for you! 6 April 2015

Thanks Wicked Reads for a free copy to read and review.

Dark. Disturbing. Cereus goes off to college thinking her Uncle Ryan passed away in the fire at the end of the last book. Cereus seems like she is vacant.... Of emotion, of expression, and just about everything a girl her age should want. It's like when her Uncle went missing, so did she. The expression....lights are on and no ones home. Vacant. A girl down the hall from her room makes her life miserable, and Cereus starts to envision herself doing very dark things to the girl. If you liked the first two books in this series, then this follows that same path. I enjoyed it, and I hope for more.
Overall entertainment is five stars!
