Enemies to lovers romance
Believable main characters
My only disappointment was the length of the book, it felt a bit rushed towards the end. The world building whilst good, could have been fleshed out a bit more as the story developed (ie I wanted to know more as the plot went along, more why and bit just the what). There was so much potential with this story to make it richer, deeper and more intricate...but in the end it felt like we only scratched the surface. It got over simplified, especially with some of the characters being made one dimensional. can't explain it. .
I'd still probably read it again.

About the Author
Beginning with the Prydain books by Lloyd Alexander and the Earthsea Trilogy by Ursula K. Leguin, Kyra Halland has always loved fantasy. She has also always loved a good love story. In 1990, as a new stay-at-home mom with a young baby, she finally decided to combine those two loves - like chocolate and peanut butter! - by writing the kinds of romantic fantasy novels she wanted to read. Complicated but honorable heroes; heroines who are strong, smart, and feminine; magic, romance, and adventure; and excursions into the dark corners of life and human nature mixed with a dash of offbeat humor - all of these make up Kyra Halland's worlds. She is excited to share those worlds with readers, who she hopes will enjoy her stories and characters as much as she does. Kyra Halland lives in southern Arizona. She has a very patient husband, two less-patient cats, and two young adult sons. Besides writing, she enjoys scrapbooking and anime, and she wants to be a crazy cat lady when she grows up. --This text refers to the paperback edition.

A quick, fun story that takes place in a unique settingReviewed in the United States on 24 July 2014
I enjoyed this book. The setting in particular appealed to me (I pictured it as a version of the Middle East ~2k years ago, with a bit of ancient Greece--e.g., stories of gods and goddesses--thrown in). The dialogue was great, the writing strong, and the story moved fast. The story was very to-the-point (the protagonists quickly moved from place to place and emotion to emotion; as soon as the previous place/emotional state had made its contribution to the plot, the story moved on). This was good for what I was in the mood for: a quick, fun read.
