OK so just like a few of the other Linda Howard books I have read, this one was very well written. The attention to detail was so so good! However, sometimes I think this was too much and it dettered from the storyline. Because there was sooo much detail about how she got Cam out of the plane and how she built the shelter and all those things, I found myself getting a little bored, and I ended up skimming through the massive descriptive paragraphs. I think more time should've been spent informing the reader of what happened after all of this, how Cam and Baileys relationship held up when everything returned to normal? They supposedly fell in love whilst out in the wild, but I do feel like the whole love/romance aspect was rushed and not thought through enough, it was almost like I didn't believe they actually had feelings for each other because it wasn't mentioned enough, and when it was there wasn't much detail at all. I understand that when people are stuck together in extreme circumstances such as this they tend to form a bond, but I really would've appreciated it if the author took more time developing their feelings and love for each other. This book is worth a read if you love attention to detail and twists and turns, however not for someone looking for a steamy hot romance.

The first thing I'd like to say is that an awful lot of the reviewers said the synopsis on the back of the book was different from the actual story and they felt annoyed/irritated/angry with this. I bought the large print hardcover copy and the synopsis on this version is 100% correct. I buy a book usually because of the author's name - can't remember the last time I bothered reading the short write-up on the back cover! I hope I'd be open minded enough to actually review the book on the storyline - not on a mistake by the publishers even if I had noticed their error.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Good escapist reading. This reminded me of the Mills Boon Intrigue books which are more action with a wee bit of romance rather than the appalling modern romances (that's a real misnomer - they tend to be the most dated storylines ever!) which are weak, soppy, boring, with loads of ridiculous over-emotion. This book had plenty of the action that I like without making my eyes glaze over with too much luv!! It has a nice amount of humour and for me just enough genuine caring and realistic love too.

Linda Howard has a distinct style of writing and her stories have a very similar theme. There is always the guy and the gal that do not get on for some reason that end up having a disaster, living through some very terrifying experiences and then falling in love. I hope I haven't spoilt the plot!
However, as you read the books you become immersed in the characters and their situation. Even if you have a inkling of the outcome you can never be 100% certain that that is where you will end up. I had borrowed this from the library but loved it so much I immediately ended up on Amazon to buy a copy as I know I could read this over and over again.
Since obtaining this I have exhausted the libraries shelves of all Linda Howard books and must say I am a great fan of her writing style and skill at keeping the tensions in the story line (both relationship and events wise).

I love Linda Howard - her Mackensie series is a definite keeper; All the Queens Men, etc - wow.

So I had high hopes for this one. But it was kinda like romance by numbers. Throw in a little suspense, some danger (but nothing like what it it implies from the blurb) and I have to agree with the first review - very much like a longer silhouette sensation novel - she can and does do much better than this.

Check out Angel of Death - now THAT was more like it!
