Product Description

As the only son to King Kendrick, Owen despises the idea of being king one day. Magician may be the only career he’d like less. He has dreaded the days leading up to his fifteenth birthday, when his father will certainly declare Owen heir to the throne. But at the birthday celebration, his father falls ill. The only person in the kingdom that may be able to save him is a magician–the very same magician Owen holds responsible for the death of his mother.

Owen and his companions will have to travel the continent of Wittatun in search of the cure for King Kendrick. On the journey, they will battle strange beasts and harsh climates, befriend extraordinary magicians, and meet a dragon before returning to Innes Castle–where much has happened in the days since they departed.

This is a well written YA fantasy novel. The story flows well, with enough action and twists to keep you hooked from beginning to end.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Fantasy Adventure 20 October 2014

Do you enjoy stories with sword dueling, sorcery, magic, and wizards? How about dragons, a young prince, a spell, and attempted murder? If you said “yes” to any of these, then you have to read Author Eric Price’s debut YA novel UNVEILNG THE WIZARD’S SHROUD.

All Owen wants to do is win the championship bout in sword dueling. If only life were that simple. Fate has other plans for Owen. He’ll soon turn fifteen and very likely his father will announce Owen as heir to the throne, even though he’s the king’s illegitimate son. The laws of the land allow this. Things don’t turn out exactly as his father, King Kendrick, has planned. At the celebration of Owen’s birthday, the king is about to make his announcement of his heir (who also could be Weylin, son of the king’s current wife Queen Andrea) when the king collapses. Magic cannot wake him. Cedric, the king’s magician, can find no way to save the king, so he and Owen are soon on a quest to get help from an old acquaintance of Cedric that takes them to unchartered territories they’ve never before seen.

The author has created a world that will let your imagination soar as Owen encounters spiders and dragons and also learns more about himself. The scenes are well described with vivid images. The characters each have their own goals, some good, some not so much. UNVEILING THE WIZARD’S SHROUD provides plenty of action, as well as some tender moments along the way. Eric Price has a talent for bringing a story to life. I’m looking forward to reading more from this new author.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fresh voice in medieval fantasy adventure 28 April 2016

Eric Price opens with the final round of a tournament, Prince Owen against Edward, Shield of the King—the commander of the King's Sentry. Owen, celebrating his fifteenth birthday wins the tourney in a hard fought match that sees him with a wounded shoulder. But more is a stake, Owen is Kendrick’s illegitimate and only son but on this day the King can declare his legitimacy and make him heir to the throne! As festivities proceeds, Kendrick declares his intention to marry Queen Andrea and this would make her legitimate son legal heir! As Kendrick is making the announcement of lineage by breaking the Affirmation Loaf, he is struck dow by an unknown agent, Cedric, a sorcerer trusted by the King but hated by Owen, who fears another Wizard Rebellion, reluctantly excepts Cedric’s aid and Cedric proclaims he must journey to seek a cure for the fell enchantment and Owen must travel with him!

Eric Price attacks his story with a gusto and carefully weaves his plots together with a mastery reminiscent or R. A. Salvatore’s early works. We get action, mystery and are introduced to the hero and associates in the first two chapters and the quest is on! this is a must book for Price is certainly grasping the torch of fantasy’s next generation.
5.0 out of 5 stars A gripping story, full of imagery 4 June 2014

Unveiling the Wizards' Shroud is the tale of Owen, a boy who is the likely heir to his father's throne. But Owen has no desire to become king and dreads the moment when, on his fifteenth birthday, King Kendrick will most likely announce that he is to be his father's successor. But when the king becomes ill, Owen's only hope is to turn to Cedric, the wizard who may have been responsible for his mother's death.

Author, Eric Price has crafted a gripping story, full of imagery, that draws the reader into Owen's quest which takes place in a fanciful world of magic and mystery.

Unveiling the Wizards' Shroud is an enjoyable read that would make a great movie for teens.

Unlike most people in the world, I haven't read any of the Harry Potter books, (gasp!) so this is the first book inhabited with wizards, dragons, sword fights, and magic that I've read in quite a few years. It's an adventure; it's an imaginative tale about an honorable quest; and it's just plain enjoyable. Escape from the real world of mud-slinging politicians and horrifying acts of terror to a fantasy world of fireball-slinging wizards and courageous acts of sacrifice and valor. And as a definite plus? The writing is pretty darned good, too. I especially appreciated his descriptions of the dragons.

Remember those old commercials for bubble bath that said, "Calgon, take me away."? With this book, you can let author Price "take you away." It's a fun book to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Swept Away by this Epic Fantasy 11 December 2013

Eric Price takes the reader on a breathless journey in his YA fantasy Unveiling the Wizards' Shroud. Owen is the only son of King Kendrick, making him the most likely candidate of heir to the throne despite the fact that his mother never married the king. When Owen's father falls ill, he must leave the safety of the castle and face the perils of Death Desert and the lands beyond. Worst of all his companion is the magician Cedric, and Owen doesn't completely trust any man of magic.

Owen fights not only magical creatures on his journey, but his own misgivings about magic and Wizards. He struggles to reach deep inside of himself to find the magic to make it back home to save his father. Along the way he learns the harsh truths of the Wizard Rebellion, including the true tale of his mother's death. I was swept off my feet as I traveled along with Owen on both his physical and personal quest.
