You see or hear things in the press which majority of the time you take with a grain of salt, but hearing about her childhood and her relationship with her mother from her own mouth and what she reveals is just heartbreaking. A complex relationship, that shaped the relationships that Demi has had in adulthood but also coming full circle to finding peace with her mother before her death from cancer.
“How does it feel to be whored by your mother for five hundred dollars?” It feels like you are an orphan.”
Demi is honest about her addiction to alcohol and what made her relapse after 20 years of sobriety, her addiction to her body image as well as her addiction to Ashton Kutcher, whom she believed was the greatest love of her life until infidelity intervened. She also touches on how after the breakup of this marriage, she hit rock bottom which resulted in the estrangement with her daughters for three years.
Demi also discusses her marriage to Bruce Willis and her relationship with him today, her most memorable movie roles and the peak of her fame as being the highest paid actress and the pressures that came along with that, as well as her three daughters Rumer, Tallulah and Scout.
Demi, doesn’t hold back in this memoir. Everything is laid bare and there are some shocking revelations. It is raw, honest, intense and in no way does she portray herself as a victim but of a survivor. Whether you are a fan of Demi or not is it well worth a read.
“We all suffer, and we all triumph, and we all get to choose how we hold both.”
It was an absolute pleasure to listen to and review Inside Out A Memoir which I highly recommend.

If you want to get the gossip on Bruce Willis, Ashton Kutcher and others you WILL find it in here: warts and all! You should never judge people by appearances; Demi has struggled with her weight, her self confidence and all the issues that modern women have to deal with. She comes across as a lovely person, dedicated mum, but very insecure.
Brilliant read. Read it in one night! Highly recommended.
I think she could have gone a bit deeper with many areas of her life- it felt like she skimmed over her adult life; At the end of the day she painted a picture and told the story she wanted to share and it was enjoyable to read.
It has taught me not to judge blindly and respect her so much more.
I couldn't put this book down and see similarities with my own life and feel determined thanks to her writing this book to get through them. Thank you!
