This story had all the feels, I laughed, I shed a few tears, I felt the love and the heartache. This is such a wonderfully told story by an author who is now firmly one of my one-click faves and definitely goes in the reread folder. This is Clay (Becks BFF) and his flatmate Max’s story. It has elements of BDSM which is a necessity for one of them and a man who always assumed he was staright but turns out he is infact a little bent. The BDSM elements where handled so well by the author and the reasoning behind the need is well explained. This story also has an adorable 7 yr old girl who is Max’s daughter. As always the story is brilliantly written and the character development is on pointe ( little pun there). We also get to see all our other fave Heathens Ink men *sighs*...... Royal, and I truly enjoy that aspect. It can be read as a standalone, but trust me, you want to read all of them.

Unraveled: Heathens Ink book 5 was a delight. I’ve read the entire series and in my review for book 4, I made it quite plain I wasn’t a fan of Shattered. So I took my time to get to Unraveled, because in my head I was thinking, once bitten...twice shy. Not even the posted reviews helped me make a decision, because Shattered had scored so many good reviews and I still wasn’t that sold on it. Finally my brain went ‘enough’, you’ve loved this series enough to buy the rest so one click it...chop-chop.
One click I did...heart in mouth, I shouldn’t have worried. Unraveled was terrific. A well written sexual and kink awakening that felt real, and right, and unfolded at a pace that didn’t seem contrived or hurried, or cliched. Add in smoking hot sexy times and a sweet, sweet HEA, and I was in reader heaven.
I loved Clay, in fact what’s not to love? He was likeable despite his many issues. I particularly liked that even though he was at times so driven by anxiety and OCD behaviour, he was still able to open his heart and mind to romantic possibilities with a man who had always identified as being straight. I would have loved it more if Clay had done some adulting and gotten some professional treatment for what he knew was such an invasive mental disorder for him, (scrubbing the house at 3am is NOT normal behaviour) but meh, that didn’t happen and I’m not sure why there wasn’t some disclosure about previous treatment ( good, bad or indifferent) or the lack of, since Clay was a responsible adult in every other part of his life and was self-aware enough to know he suffered with a common treatable mental health issue. Also, I would have LOVED to have had more explanation as to why Clay developed the anxiety and OCD behaviour in the first place, and why it spilled over into his sex life so much, and governed a lot of his adult life from his inability to travel and take risks or that on a very real level, that bondage became his one true way to unwind. Picky I know, and too curious by half, but I really would have loved to know these things and I don’t care how many cats would have been sacrificed in the process.
I loved Max. He was a superhero and everyone struggling hero deserves their own Superhero. I particularly loved him because he genuinely loved Max as best friends, and then when the dynamic changed was able to self-reflect and open his brain to the possibility that he was at the least demisexual with Clay, despite a number of weighty things hanging over his head like: his child, with his ex-wife, his traditional Italian family, changing his sexual identity as a heterosexual man, his confusion that at 32, he might have not really known everything there was to know about himself. And yeah for a level headed guy, Max had some serious self discovery to deal with, especially when he became sexually infatuated with Clay, and then completely intrigued with Clay’s need for bondage. Add in Max’s own sudden infatuation for same bondage and how much pleasure he derived from not only being a Rigger, but roping Clay and easing the inner demons of a man he was in love with, and Max as a character was elevated from straight friend to lover trope, to excellent MC with a kinky heart of gold. Add in a little light dominance as the two men who already loved each other as besties, fell IN love with each other as men, and navigated their new relationship, and yep, that’s all my jam right there. Top it off with a little angst, and thank god no dirty slinging match between exes and I was a happy camper.
The novel was well written, though touching on difficult subjects like OCD and Anxiety Disorders, child custody disputes and troublesome exes, and I thought this time around the story flowed well, was very engaging and I fully connected with both Clay and Max and even Gigi and i’m Not even a fan of kids in books. So that’s saying something. Well done this time around.
I read this on Kindle Unlimited and I Highly recommend it.

4.5 Stars....Wow.. A great book to read, loved the ending. I thought the first half was a bit slow and some bits reminded me of similar story-line of 2nd book. Once you get to halfway point wow yah watch out🔥🔥🔥Hot scenes begin with the MCs. I loved the hot shibari rope scenes. The couple totally belong together but a few things needed to be work out first. I loved the ending with Clay going after what he wants.
Clay has been looking for his perfect man for ages but what he doesn't realise is that he's right under his nose.
Clay's mind is a busy non stop activity of worrying the only thing he needs is to be roped. He worked at his dance studio since it was in his blood with his mother being a prima ballerina.
Clay shares house with his straight friend Max 33 yrs who worked as a mechanic but loved restoring motorbikes also had a daughter sharing custody. Max starts to have thoughts of being with Clay after being told he needs to be bound to settle his mind for sex. (KU)

Another great book in the Heathens Ink series. KM Neuhold is always reliable for a well told story and it continues in book 5 of this series. I found that I enjoyed this book even more than the first - really love this series.

I love, love, loved it! It's a fast paced, heartwarming story. That will make you go "awww" and "omg, that's so hot" trough out the book!
"-If you're trying to gey into my pants, flattery will get you everywhere," Clay slurs and then giggles."
Unraveled is about Clay Rollins (Beck's best friend) who owns the dance studio, On Pointe. He has the biggest crush on his very straight roommate, Max!
Clay is hopelessly looking for a partner he can trust with his mind and body. He has a kink that scare most of the guys.
Max Moretti works in his family's car shop, but he is dreaming of working in a motorcycle shop and fix classic bikes.
Gigi, his seven year old daughter, is his life! It's been ages since he was on a date, but lately, non of the women he meets is giving him the feelings he is looking for.
One drunken night, Clay tells Max about his kink. And he is deadly afraid that Max is going to kick him out of the apartment. But Max gets intrigued. And he can't seem to get a specific picture out of his head...
I can't seem to get out in words how much I loved the connection and the love between Clay and Max!!
"My daddy wants to kiss you and be with you forever," Gigi declares with a smile."
If you haven't read the previous books in the A Heathens Ink series, then you'll get a good tease of the guys in this book. I love those guys!!
"-A gentleman doesn't get ravaged by a hunk and tell," I quip. "-No fair, I told you when Gage and I finally got down and dirty," Beck pouts. "-Exactly, you are far from a gentleman."

A Very Different Kind of D/s Romance
Reviewed in the United States on 13 May 2018Verified Purchase
Auto mechanic Max has his hands full taking care of his daughter, who he shares custody of with her mother. He is definitely thinking about finding the “right girl” and settling down, but nobody he meets seems to spark any deep feelings. Max's roommate and best friend Clay's situation isn't much different. He's busy running his business and helping Max take care of his daughter. Only, in Clay's case, he just hasn't found the right guy, which is doubly hard for him given his need to be tied up to really enjoy sex.
It shouldn't be too much of a spoiler to reveal that Max and Clay do get together in the course of the story. I've never particularly cared for the “gay for you” plot line. It often doesn't ring true, and of course feeds into conservative hysteria about gays “recruiting” straight people. But the plot of “Unraveled” lays some careful groundwork to make a believable case for Max coming to terms with his attraction to Clay.
The two men come across as quit believable characters all-around. There are quite a number of other people around them, and they're all three dimensional. A lot of Clay's friends seem to be people who were introduced in other books from the “Heathen Ink” series, but I haven't read the previous books and it doesn't feel like I've missed much.
Clay's kink, which is rope bondage, as you can guess from the title and cover, plays a big role in this story, and it creates a somewhat unusual dynamic for a BDSM story. The sub-who-doesn't-know-he's-a-sub is a common plot theme in kinky stories, but it's rare that we see dominant feelings surface in a character. Perhaps even more rare is seeing a [potential] Dom research what his [prospective] sub needs. While the story arc is otherwise what you'd expect from a D/s romance, these distinctive aspects of the plot set it apart from the usual fare.

**Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie for my reading pleasure in hopes of an unbiased opinion, a review was not a requirement.**
Unravaled is book 5 in K.M. Neuhold’s Heathens Ink series. Regardless of whether this book can be read as a standalone or not, this series is fantastic and you really need to read every book. Personally, I think you’ll get more pleasure if you read the books in the appropriate order.
Clay was introduced in book 4 as Beck’s best friend and business partner. It took me a few minutes to figure out who Clay was since he’s not part of the Heathen Ink's crew. Clay is who he is and makes no apologies for it. He has his kinks but struggles to find someone to indulge in those kinks. He’s settled into his life and afraid to step outside of his comfort zone and make changes. Clay is in love with his straight roommate Max and they have a very couply, non-couply relationship. Max works with his father and brothers, and they are very stereotypical mechanics. Max has a great relationship with his daughter, and thanks to Beck, he and Clay get to spend quality time with her. Max notices Clay and enjoys being with him, and everything changes when he discovers a picture of Clay.
As with this whole series, I like the characters in it. I thought Clay, Max and Max’s daughter were great additions to this series. I enjoyed the added Shibari in this story, which is not something I’ve read in MM books before. I have read a series involving Shibari before from a mainstream male/female author so I knew what to expect. I don’t enjoy reading BDSM but I thought this was the perfect level for me. My only concern with reading this book was I felt that Shibari wasn’t something you could just jump into. All I kept thinking while reading was, here’s this newbie picking up ropes, does he know to pay attention to tightness and if there’s numbness? And, it doesn’t seem like a newbie can just jump into patterns and doing it the right way without causing damage. So, for me, I’d like it to be more realistic than a beginner being an expert immediately.
Something I’ve really started noticing is how authors handle the dialogue regarding female and female anatomy and this author handled it perfectly. The characters mentioned not being into women, and the author didn’t make it about women and their anatomy being gross. So, thank you to the author!!
If you haven’t read the books in this series, I highly recommend it! I’ve loved every book and character introduced, though, I’m sorry to Clay and Max, I love you, but Beck is still my favorite character! This is a great series that covers a lot of emotional topics but keeps from drowning you in depression.

Wow. This book. What can I say other than Wow that was HOT. I loved this story, but I also really like Shibari (Japanese Rope Bondage). And you can tell the Author did their research on this one. It wasn’t just written as the usual D/S Bondage between Max and Clay. It was sweet that Max took the time to really figure out what Clay needed from the Relationship and didn’t just jump right in once he figured out what he wanted as well. That for both of them it's not about pain, or humiliation, or really any dominance and submission. Its just all about the bondage. They both took their time thinking everything out, and went from being Roommates and Best Friends, to Lovers with some kink. I just wish it was a little longer with More Shibari scenes. But overall a really good book. This is a "Spin-off" to Heathens Ink and includes some of the characters from previous books as well. So I cant wait to see what the Author creates next in this series of books.
Audio - Kenneth did Great with this one, it was such a pleasure listening to this book, and it might actually be bumped up to my favorite audio in this series. I liked the difference he put into the voices for Clay and Max making them both unique, to stand out from each other but still the story flowed seamlessly. I'm sure I will be doing a re-listen to this one soon.

Maybe not so straight

What a phenomenal book. Clay and Max are roommates and best friends. Clay has always had a crush on Max knowing he was straight. Max is a single father to his daughter Gigi whom Clay adores. Clay is into bondage and feels he can not find a partner to accept that part of him especially straight Max. One drunken night and their relationship changes. Max begins to realize he has romantic feelings for Clay so maybe he is not so straight and he is quite interested bondage. With that said their relationship begins. It is beautiful and loving. As always it was nice to catch up with previous cast of characters. I highly recommend reading this book.
