Product Description

Cara Rossi’s life has been a mess ever since her identical twin was killed. She blames the mafia, its ways, and the people within the caustic culture for a painful reality that turned her world on its side. In an attempt to momentarily pause her misery, a night out puts her on a path with a man she shouldn’t get involved with simply because of his last name—Gian Guzzi.

He’s the kind of man that makes it hard to say no.

Gian Guzzi’s problems are piling up fast. A murdered grandfather, an unpredictable mafia, and a new boss that threatens both his family’s legacy and his life. As a Cosa Nostra underboss, Gian has a duty. First to la famiglia, and only then to himself. In the midst of the violent uncertainty that has become unrelenting in his days, Cara Rossi should only be a distraction for him to enjoy.

She’s a happiness that he was never allowed to choose before.

His lies.
This life.
Their love.

It all unravels eventually.

4.0 out of 5 stars Desperate for the next one!! Great mafia read!! 13 June 2017

Unraveled (Guzzi Duet #1) by Bethany-Kris
4 stars!!!

“He touched. He demanded. Her body reacted.”

Bethany-Kris is one of my favourite Mafia authors and once again she has delivered with Unraveled. Unraveled is the first book of a duet and to say that I am itching for the next one would be a severe understatement. It seems Bethany-Kris certainly knows how to end a book and keep the reader well and truly on the hook. We should only have a couple of months to wait, but still, I desperately need the next one. For me this was a quick read, the pages turned at the rate of knots, loved the action both in and out of the sheets, the character connection was on point and the chemistry between these two characters was seriously hot!! This one ticked all my mafia boxes.

Gian Guzzi is a made man, the underboss, a man being groomed for the position by his grandfather. When the time comes though for Gian to take the reins it seems the older generation of the Canadian famiglia of the Cosa Nostra have other ideas. This is where all the Mafia action takes, a battle of wills, a battle of minds, a battle of tactics and a battle of loyalty. Everything that makes Mafia books the crack they are.

“What matters the most is that someone started a war, and I plan on finishing it.”

Gian was everything a made man should be, he was an enigma, he was professional, but in his personal life he was totally different. Gian was a closet romantic, a filthy talker, bilingual with that perfect blend of Italian and French, a sharp dresser, inherently handsome and dominant and quite frankly Cara Rossi never stood a chance.

“Some people do say the Guzzi blood is made of nothing but gold, luck, and dirt.”

Cara Rossi was a Chicago mafia princess that had stayed away from the city and the family life. Cara and her twin had settled in Canada, far, far away from everything that Cara hates. Cara is drowning in grief and has been a recluse for months until one of her friends holds an intervention. Cara and Gian’s paths cross and herein begins one seriously hot, intense and all-consuming romance. What started out as a one night stand soon morphs into more but Gian is everything that Cara doesn’t want…until she does.

“Be where, or with whom, or do whatever you need to do to be happy. Take that risk—it’s worth it. Because this life is fleeting, and tomorrow might be the last time you smile, so it’s better to spend today happy.”

With any Mafia romance, you always know that these men play their cards extremely close to their chests and Gian is no different. Gian knows that Cara is extremely skittish and while he knows that she knows who he is, he doesn’t want to entrench her into his “life” until she is ready. Cara is kept on the periphery at her own choice, but the longer their relationship continues the more she is tempted to take the next step. Gian is so protective of her, incredibly infatuated and hopelessly in love which to be honest is probably some of the reasons for certain omissions. A relationship built on secrets is never healthy and it is here that Bethany-Kris certainly ramps up this story.

“Don’t you think it’s a little sad that you love someone who is just waiting for the other shoe to drop?”
“I think it’s sad that the woman I love feels like she has to wait on that at all.”

Yes, I will admit tears were shed, quite a few in fact and I cannot wait to see how Bethany-Kris gets Gian out of this particular sticky situation. Unraveled though was the perfect balance of Mafia plot and an all-consuming, where both parts were just as addictive as the other. The chemistry and the between the sheets scenes were seriously off the charts and Bethany-Kris certainly brought these characters to life. I think August should be when book two is released, I know that I for one will be eagerly anticipating that one. I seriously need it now!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic read, all I expected and more! 5 June 2017
By Lily - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Unraveled by Bethany-Kris is the story of how Gian Guzzi, the smooth talking and well attired mobster meets Cara Rossi, the strong-willed redhead who wants nothing to do with ‘this life of theirs’!

They share one night, too many connections and unforgettable passion. Cara is on to Gian’s charming ways and does her best to maintain a healthy distance. He’s a patient man and sees her barriers as the building blocks for a lot more than one night.

Maintaining indifference to defining whatever it is they are building becomes increasingly difficult as family matters play out around them. Gian’s natural charm works its magic on Cara. Having spent the last months grieving the loss of a loved one, Gian presents an opportunity to momentarily escape and forget, if only for a night.

Gian is a character who has the ability to knock all your other anti-heroes off their pedestals. What would be considered OTT traits in other men, were Gian’s attributes. The man speaks French, Italian, and English (thankfully for Cara and me as the reader!), he’s wealthy, dangerous and his talents are endless.

Gian’s cockiness is far from obnoxious. Normally I would have scrunched up my face from the smell of desperation but his style is of confidence, acceptance and genuine acknowledgement of who he is and how he operates. I for one considered myself charmed! Yes, short of providing stats, this man is perfection personified, except for a few niggly details.

The power he commands among his men, and the way this was conveyed through the dialog throughout the story, exemplified the talented storytelling of Bethany-Kris. His imperfections were nullified by his clarity of the big picture. He has a knack of making the impossible, possible. His charm and confidence bridging the gap of doubt hovering between the situation and solution.

There is one stand out secondary character I am compelled to acknowledge, Chris. This man has my nomination for employee of the month award. He defines loyalty, respect, redefining patience at the same time. I enjoyed catching up with familiar characters from Bethany-Kris previous series that are strategically placed in this story. If you haven’t read their books, it won’t impact the enjoyment of this duet. Reading the Filthy Marcello collection first though, will avoid encountering spoilers relating to the Rossi family.

This is a story of upholding a legacy by putting the family above personal desires and the heartbreak it can cause. It deals with loss, love and detachment with all the intensity you would expect in a mafia romance.

Unraveled it the first part of the Guzzi Duet and naturally, the story doesn’t end with Unraveled. Needless to say, I can’t wait to read Entangled and see what’s next in store for Gian and Cara!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing beginning to new series 5 June 2017

>>>>I voluntarily received an Advanced Review Copy of this book<<<<
This is definitely a start to an exciting new series combine with an impressive amount of deception, action, gripping suspense and a roller coaster ride of emotional turmoil. It was highly excruciating, captivating, nail biting and explosive.

The book kept me hooked from start to finish while I'm anxiously waiting for the next one. The connection Cara and Gian had was similar to a stick of TNT ready to explode and when it finally happened BOOM!

Cara Rossi is still grieving her twin sister death with the withdrawal symptoms of non-existence. Her life was totally turned upside down on its axis because of her sister death. Lea and Cara Rossi was identical twins but also princesses of the Outfit based in Chicago. She was persuaded to go out by one of Lea's friend (Bambi Emma) to a new nightclub "Danza". Danza owner is Gian Guzzi, underboss to Corrado Guzzi and the attraction was instantaneously on point. Can Cara overcome her grief? Will she find out the secrets from the grave? Who is the true Gian Guzzi?

Gian Guzzi is very handsome, seductive and well trained by his grandfather (Corrado Guzzi) in the daily activities within the Cosa Nostra businesses. He was a made man, the underboss, born, given special privileges because of his name along. His love for his grandfather was the sacrifice of his other siblings to be omitted from the business. Gian arrived at his new club with the intention to make his rounds then leave but someone caught his attention. The beautiful curly red headed young lady sitting in the VIP section now he is a goner. Will Gian reveal his secrets? Can he see Cara without losing his heart? Who can Gian trust within the family business?

This twisted story is a tale that was written with many questions and secrets to be revealed about the mysterious Canadian mafia family with this being the first one in the series. Ms. Kris has a devious mastermind, with her magnificent writing style that I am truly addicted to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing and suspenseful mafia 5 June 2017
By Tanaka Kangara - Published on Amazon.com

When I think of mafia romance excellence, I always think of Bethany Kris. Her books keep getting better and better. Her books always has palpable suspense and hot action dripping in the pages. Her books are just superb in my eyes. That is why I am always addicted to them. Just Like Unraveled. Unraveled is Bethany Kris best work to date. It told an unforgettable mafia story that really impressed me.

Unraveled is about Cara Rossi and Gian Guzzi. I was addicted to this story. It was written well with so much emotion but also with a skill of a talented author. I was gripped. I was captured. I was fully immersed in this book. I felt the pain. I felt the love. I felt the chilling suspense that it coursed through my veins. It was mind blowing. It dazzled me. The action, the danger and the mayhem in this smoking hot story grabbed my attention. Bethany Kris seems to always outdo hersef everytime. She is just phenomenal. Not only Unraveled had a danger and emotion but it told a story of forbidden love with such heart wrenching moments. My heart was touched so deeply.

Cara Rossi and Gian Guzzi are what I call a doomed couple. Everyone were against their relationship. And it was deemed wrong. But there was chemistry. It was emotional yet it was off the charts hot. I loved them together. Cara was quiet, an observer and a girl who carried the world on her shoulders. I felt for her yet she had a quiet strength about her. I found it alluring. Gian is a dominant alpha male. Strong, dangerous and commanding. Man, I loved him but I hated him when I found out his big secret. I wanted to smack him. Now I have this love hate thing with him and I have to find out how he sorts out his problems in book 2. I cant wait.

Unraveled was the best work by Bethany Kris to date. I am left with so many question. How will Gian sort out his secret. What will he do? Hmm, I guess time will tell.
5.0 out of 5 stars I didn't have much love for Cara 16 June 2017
By Natalie The Biblioholic - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I'm crushed. Holy moly, am I ever just crushed. How could this happen? The author took my heart from my chest and squeezed it into dust. That's how I feel right now.

If I were to be completely honest, I didn't have much love for Cara. I liked her from the glances of her I got in previous books. The general idea of her. And I was curious as to what had become of her... but the way her brain worked in this story kinda drove me nuts. She left me quite confused. I'm always lost when the heroine is somebody involved in the family in some way, whether through knowledge of what La Famiglia is or from growing up in the life, but goes against everything in the family. You grew up with this. You know it. You lived it.m Where did your money or lifestyle come from? Your brother is completely immersed in it, not to mention the rest of your family. And yet you want nothing to do with it and think that you're not involved, like no one knows who you are because you're not involved in the business. Do you know any mobster who has children or relatives of any kind and people don't know about those relatives? That not all of those relatives are directly involved in the life? And yet they can still be seen as targets. To me this girl was trying to survive on blind ignorance.

Ok, so little rant over. I did like the chick. I just haven't fallen in love with her. Yet.

As for Gian... I couldn't get enough of him. Literally. Couldn't get enough. I cannot wait for the next book to get even more of him. I liked the idea that he was fully immersed in the life and was aware of how to navigate it and still try to have something for himself. I liked that, despite the fact that it is duty, legacy, and then love, that he found a way to do that and still fall in love.

"I know you love me because I can count on one hand the times you've asked me for something, or needed something from me, or wanted just me until tonight. I can count on one hand, but I'd only need one finger to do it. Just tonight - that's the only time you've ever taken something from me that you wanted."

Did I like his motives or his lack of full disclosure? Absolutely not. Am I pissed at him? Absolutely yes! But I love him regardless. He was my favorite character of his entire book. I'm excited to see how things turn out in book two. I'm excited to see how he's going to turn things around. I'm kind of sick to my stomach with the idea of the situation he's in. It actually makes my stomach hurt very badly but I'm excited to see what the author is going to do with these two characters. How is she going to get them to the other end and have them thrive and be happy. I'm sure it's going to be a long road but I have no problem traveling it.
